could have been anything..even a stolen car etc.. just a reminder to always been on the look out when crossing junctions even when the lights are green
I really hope they didn't jump those lights at that speed without sirens on. That's a busy section! I don't think chasing an untaxed or uninsured driver is worth this price..... Fingers crossed the biker isn't too hurt and recovers quickly
Through a red light without it's siren on at 60mph? At the very least the police driver should loose his job for that and get back to walking the beat, clearly he can not drive I hope the biker is ok
Yep true. From what I've read of these in the past though, any investigation is highly unlikely to put the coppers at fault because we all know they are the most highly trained competent and experienced drivers in the world who never, ever, make mistakes right. I could go on but I'm not normally like this so I'd better pull my neck in...... let's see if this cynical (and grumpy on a Friday) guy is proved wrong.
Man it winds me up this business of the Police and roads! Why.... Well you do 32 is a 30 and your nicked! I caught a thief this year and had him locked in a room called 999 and told them just that, plus I had CCTV of him loading his pockets of my fathers stock too! Did'nt even bother to turn up!!!! Hour later, let him go.!
Iv never seen a police car cross red lights fast..there is a possibility the bike was going fast also...
I should say I am by no means anti Police, some of my customers are in the Police force and they are a fine bunch of people too, work hard and take risks for others, as I always say no way you can put judgement on such an incident without all of the facts, hope all involved come out ok. That car does look a mess!
A copper acquaintance of mine did something similar, T boned another car at a junction with blues only.... did he get away with it... .. hell no his constabulary threw the book at him, screwed himover so much he had to move forces. He is a bit of twat though and deserved it.

We had a police car fly through a red light with his roof lights on (no sirens) and hit one of our buses at the bottom of town, and we only got 50/50 liability with 12 passenger witnes's, 6 pedestrian witness's and all the CCTV you could want in an incident. Our driver really couldn't have done much about it even though he was only doing 15mph but I can guarantee he would've lost his job, got some points and a hefty fine if the situation was reversed. It seems the police are in fact above the law. Andy B
Yes indeed and they should not be, they must be seen to follow the letter of the law exactly, traffic lights have to use sirens and blue lights and to treat as a give way if lights are on red? Not just blasts across at hight speed without a care in the world
2 points to make on your post. Police drivers are no longer trained to the level theuy once were. My old crew mate who is now an instructor on the school has pulled out what hair he had remaining because they can no longer train to the standard that used to be the norm. Back in the day, to get a class 1 ticket it used to be a 3 week standard course to drive a Panda or low powered vehicle, a 3 week intermediate course (class 3) to drive the high perfomance vehicles and then the 4 week advanced course to get your class 1 or 2. So it used to be a total of 10 weeks minimum. If you went onto bikes as I did, then you started all over again, 3 week standard bike, 3 week intermediate bike and then 4 week advanced bike. Now it is 3 weeks all in. Many Bikesafe instructors are no better qualfied than their civillian counterparts and i have spoken to some who get to ride a marked bike just because they hold a full licence. To drive a marked Panda car, in my old force it is now just a 30 minute check drive to make sure that they are safe, end of!!!! We used to be professional drivers and riders, we had personal issue vehicles and had professional pride in our standards. That has long gone. But, in the case of a crash, the investigating officer will have no qualms in recommending a prosecution if the evidence is there, but it is also double jepardy because not only do they run the risk of being prosecuted, but also of internal disciplinary proceedings. Whilst it may appear to be a cover up, rest assured from experience of having investigated such crashes myself, if the copper is at fault then the final report will reflect this, especially if force procedure was not complied with, which may be different to a court prosecution, but just as damming none the less. That said, I have seen a lot of Police vehicles here the standard of driving has made me cringe. So, highest trained? Not any more.
That's sad to hear T.C. I was always under the impression that patrol car drivers where highly trained, and had my respect for it, I am sad to hear that is not now the case, and it must put the general public at even more danger all down to money no doubt?
Interesting insight TC, and scary to think the folks that can legally drive at dangerous speeds may have had a 30 minute sign off. I'd rather corners not be cut in areas like this, and I suspect the majority, including the cops that need to meet the tests, would agree.
