At risk of ranting I need to get this off my chest to my forum pals.. Literally nothing inspires me at the minute! 4 years ago I started my apprenticeship an I am just about to become fully qualified and I find myself dreading going to work everyday, there's that much redtape and paperwork to do it just takes all the fun out of being an engineer. Just finished a risk assessment course today which has highlighted about 30 machines that need looking at sorting out by year end along with all my other objectives. Mum suggests "why don't you go out for a run??" but that's the last thing I wanna do after work. Just look forward to going to sleep everyday so its another manotonous day out the way. All I wanna do is be on a bike all the time its' how I used to clear my head but with the racing now there's not a chance in hell I could afford another road bike. Does anybody else ever feel like this??
After 33 years in the same office the feeling gets worse but you learn to deal with it, work buys toys etc
Yeah but can't really afford insurance at the mo and I'd be having to ride it like I was on the track to keep the tyres right
I'm so jelous of these people who get to ride/race a bike everyday everything else is sooo broing its no life
Quite often, Tyke. I've learnt a few things over the years. I won't go into massive detail but I consider meself a bit of a wise-old owl after everything I've been through in my life. One thing I have learnt is that toys, bikes, money, women etc etc are all just patches over a larger problem. If you rely on things and other people to feel contented and happy then you're missing the point. Happiness and contentment comes from within. If you find yourself needing to be riding your bike or shopping or drinking etc in order to feel satisfied then chances are you need to have a look at the larger picture to figure out why you're not content. Lots of love, Dr. Miriam Stoppard
Haha totally agree rich! If I had a more exciting job I would be fine, not much I can do about that tho
Well you can. You could change your job. I know what you mean though. Mine bores the shite out of me sometimes but it's money and it keeps me fed and watered and warm. I think a lot of it's about perspective. If you were living in Romania and trying not to starve to death then you'd think your life was unbelievable. Sadly we're a bit spoilt in this country and tend to lose perspective and think that we're hard done-by. Bit daft really but we all do it.
Yeah my mum said that too haha! Its all relative to your personal situation tho isnt it. I feel lucky with the racing, if i didnt have bikes in my life id of lost it a loooong time ago!
Ahhh the mid month reality hits comedown between race meets!! yes mate, we all feel like that. my work sucks right now big style, im working harder than ever and it's a ball ache... tops it off i've just been told i'm now being taxed on my expenses... not major you might say but just effectively taken a £5k pay cut today. not cricket imo!
Not to worry Tyke you only have another 40 years to go and then you can sit in the chair dribbling. I could see this coming a mile off when you put your road bike for sale . Get yourself a 600 and enjoy it and your mates without trying to be Rossi all the time we all like a touch of speed but the ad ons like chilling with friends in Whitehaven after a run or just messing in the garage . I have sent out a general text this morning about a few dudes meeting up on Thursday for a chippy tea and a run to Chester and I think this is what you are missing out on . Back to the job in hand ! As you progress up the ladder you will find that reward comes with mither and paperwork which in turn means boredom . I have just had 28 years of Management managing construction work but due to not wanting to work away I left the company and have been working self employed since Xmas although its back to manual work its a breath of fresh air ie FREEDOM away from the bullshit that you unfortunately are encountering .get your qualification and then decide if this is for you ..Your young and bright so use this to your advantage .
Its bullshit jimbo why do we have to be unhappy 90% of the time just to have 10% excitement and fun with friends!!
I know exactly how you feel mate. Finding a good woman really helps with these situations as I can handle all the bullsh*t way better when I have someone special to come home to each day. Kinda helps bring a point to going to work and being miserable all day. I wanna race too but not at the loss of road riding as it's one of my few escapes and happy places. Trust me when I say you are far from alone with these thoughts
Lol if i just earnt another grand a month i could be on track twice a month and have a road bike. Not asking for the world like haha
Chin up Mark, we all have times when we feel the way you are. Take work for what it is, work- Try your best but don't get stressed over things that are outside of your personal control. Don't look at the next bloke and think how great their life seems, it's sometimes the case those that seem the happiest are actually masking a world of pain. Try to reflect on what you have, not what you don't. Racing, your music, your health and from those I've personally met a great bunch of pals. I was going to say looks, but know you'll think I'm taking the piss Take care dude, bell me if you fancy a chat
Trust me things do change and improve but sometimes at a painfully slow pace! Once qualified and able to hunt around for better jobs with more experience the money will soon come
Can see what you're saying giv but tbh I'd keep the racing over road riding anyday! Just think I need a roadbike to fill the gaps, like you say getting out away from work and home to the beautiful places in the countryside with friends, having a natter and getting some nice fresh sea air! Wouldn't feel like I'd have to be giving it the beans all the time. Don't think you guys understand but I have a bit of an obsession with bikes, if its not fast and on 2 wheels then 99% of the time to me its a load of bollocks. I'm having to take responsibilities on at work that tbh I don't care about I'm only concerned if its fast and fun. On the up note my younger sis has just got back from her hols and shes a little ray of sunshine in my life!
You could try and get quicker on the track and i mean much much quicker, then in turn someone may pay you to ride their bikes
The second you earn that grand a month, you'll need another grand a month.... Take it as it comes and enjoy the good times dude (been a sucker for the rat race money chase myself and takes a while to realise its not everything - but it also helps pay for expensive hobbies so I get your point), but just remember some poor folk would love a day on track a month
