Hi all, I've read several posts regarding the peg removal but I haven't seen any that have ABS. Is it basically the same job or do you go about it in a different way? Thanks in advance
Going from my sketchy memory it's basically the same procedure. I studied the guides on here then went for it and followed my own path. It's straight forward enough. Racking my memory now, I may had to free up the bracket holding the pipework in place that's located between the seat and rear brake but that was all I think. It's the small block that has the solid pipes connected to it and there's a plastic cover on the front. good luck anyway
Thanks for the reply, thinking about tackling this but don't want to have a stripped bike for the summer! I've looked at the guides and am going with the 2 hour plus timescale as I'm not handy with spanners...
Was delighted to buy a tinted high screen which I fitted last night, even though I was super careful with the lower tabs on the fairing, I still managed to snap one?! Not filling me full of confidence to remove the pegs
Normanstanley's Album: Rearfootpeg removal some pics here to help........... think their in reverse......
Hahaha yeah I know, screen is ok but tab is now annoying me when on the bike. I'd have super glued the tab back on, but it fell into the fairing never to be seen again. Given my cac handed effort with the screen replacement, I don't fancy my chances of removing/ refitting the front fairing without breaking anything else...
I used this guide for reference, this guide removes the battery box and petrol tank if I remember rightly. Go the sub frame removal route it's a lot easier and use the hot bodies guide for removing the rear plastics. I was shatting myself at the thought of doing it on my 09 abs but it was a piece of piss in the end, just take the time. Worth it in the end though.
I just did mine today and fitted Sato hooks. No need to remove tank or battery box at all. Though this is the second time I've split the subframe. Which helps as you remember what to do.
Thanks guys, going to have a go at this. I managed to fit a seat cowl without breaking anything, so has given me the confidence to strip the bike within an inch of its life
Well I did it, many thanks for all the tips as it really gave me the confidence to do this job. Took me 2 hours exactly, and the only thing that gave me second thoughts was the 2 bolts holding the brake lines to the subframe, but once I worked out that it was only held by these bolts it was fine. Didn't put street hooks on as I wanted the pegs off today! May do this job again but not in any rush lol
My tips. Take photos of what you are removing so you have a guide when refitting. And.... Buy street hooks before you do this job if you need them, as I really couldn't be bothered doing this again! I just had it in my head I wanted the pegs off so went for it. I'm sure I can tie the bike down somewhere else if I ever need to. Oh, and I'm feeling all smug that I actually did this myself
If fitting sato street hooks make sure your buying the abs version otherwise you can't refit the footpegs to them
Buy the street hooks even if you don't want to use them for pillion pegs. The make an ideal anchoring point for travelling
