    Santander are renown for charges like this. The problem comes when the charges are applied to tip you overdrawn the next month, as happened to my daughter when she was a uni student and her grant went in late. She complained and got nowhere, yet a big black guy did the same and got a refund, i wonder why?

    Ahhhh!.........a late payment is different from going £10 overdrawn which is what 'Barsteward' did. Maybe it was payments for a loan/mortgage etc in which case that might indicate that you're unreliable or prone to default. Not such a big deal if there's just one or two late payments over a 'long' period and many payments and you fulfill the loan.

    But going overdrawn for a small sum is something almost everybody does, they're not bothered with that, unless you're persistently going overdrawn especially for larger amounts.

    OK, I got it.!
    I did not know there is a difference.
    I am doing everything by direct debit now to avoid such these charges.
