    Ok here goes guys

Got a new blade with bog std suspension my13 , I'm finding the suspension fairly hard . It's straight out the shop and nothing touched on the suspension settings. Not had time to take it to get set up, however a few people I know say drop the tyre pressures 4-5 psi and that I don't wanna ride it with 42psi/36psi
Can't help thinking this is just over compensating for the suspension not being set up to my weight. Got me wondering if everybody runs standard tyre pressures ? I'm told lowering tyre pressures will wear the tyres out faster & that they need to be accurate so the abs will perform well.

    Thoughts ?

Standard tyre pressures are on for fast road use . Trackday use will be much lower .
Stick with standard tyre pressure s for road , My friends an I all use standard pressures on road an ride pretty quick an knee down with no problems .

Was gonna ask this exact question earlier.

My RR7 also had very hard suspension, much harder than my 03/R1 which I still had after buying the RR7. I've improved things by softening bit by bit the settings. I also dropped the tyre pressures by a few pounds tonight (not ridden it yet).

When I had my 03/R1 I was told the 36/42 pressure was too high by many and they were right. Some guys ran very low pressures of about 20/30 lbs which I thought was way too low. I settled on about 30/36 on the R1 which def' improved things. I also had my suspension setup by Alpha suspension which was well worth it.

I recommend you soften all the settings a few clicks and see how it feels, then try the tyres at lower pressures. You should do all this 'bit by bit' and note the setting s before you change anything so you can go back.

Ideally you want a suspension 'guru', does anyone know any in the South East/London area? Alpha suspension was a very long ride from Watford (he's in Leeds) though still worth the ride.

    ALPHA SUSPENSION SET-UP - Welcome

Based on some forum advice I dropped my rear tyre to 36psi and am much happier.

Yeah I'm gunna go to see john at alpha , he set my r6 up for me, it was loads better afterwards. Although I still wonder if people use lower pressures in general ?

Yeah I've just seen you're not far from him. Definitely worth £35.

Drop your pressures a tad and 'suck it and see', as they say. ;)

How come you only dropped the rear pressure simon & not the front ?

What makes it harder is that I need the rear on the firm side as I have a hugger on and don't want it smashed. I'm sure he'll be able to get a better setting , whilst still firmish

It just feel better like that to me :) I had mine set up by John at Alpha too, also got harder springs in my forks and new valves, oil and shims
I drop my Dunlop D212 (track rubber mostly) to 34/32 (Might go lower on rear, as still experimenting with these) on road and 30/20 on track
the 36/36 I use on my Rosso 2's

How will lower tyre pressure smash your hugger?

I meant the suspension settings, if there a bit too soft, hugger may crack.

I'm saying that the suspension is too firm and needs softening, however as my bike is an abs model it has a big black abs unit under the seat area , ie less clearance than a non abs to the. Hugger so if it's too soft the abs gubbins will bottom out ont hugger. You get me ?

you want the suspension to do the work, not really the tyre as this will give poor wear+performance from the tyre.

different tyres need different pressures, fronts tend to be higher, and a lot higher on dunlops if your using any of the sport/track tyres.even the pirreli's are starting to go down the stiff wall route now which means they will be lower aswell.

1st point of call, before you start to mess around with pressures is suspension set up imo.set this up right,or any other changes you make will mask other problems, but not the issues they bring.

Cheapest mod you'll ever do with the best gains, average cost for suspension set up is £40

Quite often they will tell you tyre pressures to run also, mine is 36f/36r but prefer 34f/36r

If the bike is bouncing all over the place when riding over potholes or bad roads then its to hard and would need softening a touch ,plenty of guys on here better qualified then me but perhaps a clear photo of the setting screw and some basic advice on how many clicks with the screw driver won't do any harm ...I run 36 rear 32 front and seems very good .:p

I run standard 36/42 on the road, but there again I'm not that fast and I often carry a pillion.

Yeah get you now, but surely you'd have to have it extremely soft for it to do that?
