Heard lots of discussion about it being slippier than other circuits? Something to do with jet fuel. Whats your experience compared to the other UK tracks you've ridden?
I have and think I started the discussion, jury still out on the fuel as a cause tbh with me but does feel a little vague compared to brands that ive ridden in the wet. wasn't shocking, but wasn't great... you'll be fine... just take it easy besides, what you worrying about, it'll be sunny blue skies I still owe you those notes mate - don't let me forget.
Did it about 3 years ago, this was the racetrack though rather than the runway so no jet fuel about! Some sessions were postponed when the water started building up and not draining off quickly enough, it was hammering down though. Planes tend to take off over the racetrack so are normally sucking fuel in at a fast rate rather than spilling it.
The Race Track is susceptible to Kerosene spillage as it's under the Flight Path to East Midlands Airport. When I used to work around Manchester Airport the surrounding Villages, especially Ashley, were a skating rink when it rained due to the Kerosene soaked roads. Didn't do much for ya washing if hung out to dry either!
Awesome track - long heard the warnings about it being slippery when wet but thankfully only had dry days there, even if there was snow along the edges of the start/finish straight!
I've now lived directly under the incoming flight path into East Midlands for 6 years and never had any instances of aviation fuel on washing or on roads. I suspect controls on this have tightened.
It doesn't leak out as such (bad description on my initial post) it's just a fine vapour misting in the exhaust gasses can occur on Takeoff under full throttle acceleration. It's a well documented occurrence under the Flight Path out of Manc Airport so it's logical to assume this occurs at other Airports if roads are in close proximity. It's that or Castle Donnington have purposely used a 'Slippy when Wet' Tarmac, just for a laff like!
Quick report- donington is no different to any other track in the wet. Dont listen to the bullshitters!!
