Just punting out for owners thoughts. I am on my 5th Blade,so I think I have a pretty good feel for them, each one just gets better IMO. Have just gone from a 2010 to a 2014, so missed the 2012 upgrades. I have ridden a couple of 12s and know the BPF suspension is an improvement, but never noticed enough to think the engine felt much different, (maybe just not enough miles on one to find out), but I am finding the 2014 engine is night and day from the 2010. The engine has a broader spread of power, which unlike the 2010 is glitch free all the way from low revs to the top end in any gear, no more fuelling shunt on/off and slow constant revs, but its the way it produces its power that is the most noticeable, so maybe my 2010 was shagged or there is a real difference in this years powerplant. Anyone else noticed anything as a back to back comparison, or am I just sugarcoating myself to justify my spend?
The 14 has the same matched internals as the sp just with out the brembo and ohlins so you might be right about the feel of more power
You are not on your own. After I exchanged my 2011 repsol for the 2012 anniv model. I could not believe how smooth and glitch free the power was. None of that irritating snatchiness at low revs that plagued the repsol. Put it this way, I couldn't wait to get a PCV for the repsol to hopefully solve my niggles....On the 2012, screw the PCV I don't need one. Just my opinions of course and only based on my 2 bikes, But Im happy!
wouldn't it be great to test each years models one after another to see how the Fireblade weapon has changed through the years! Thats an issue of a jazz mag if ever Ive seen one lol
I don't believe the standard 2014 Blade has the matched internals of the SP? Should be (bar minor tweeks) the same as the MY12 onwards.
It is the same as the SP I think "Still the 1-litre sports bike class leader, the CBR1000RR Fireblade keeps the same frame and suspension introduced last season, but with cylinder head modifications which give an extra 3bhp peak power. Sharing the same performance figures as the limited availability 'SP' version, the fuel injection system has been remapped and the exhaust headers revised for increased torque. See it in the showroom soon!"
No it doesn't, it does have the same redesigned cylinder head and fueling set-up as the SP but the matched pistons are unique to the SP.
Sp is blue printed with hand picked pistons and conrods.. They are in much smaller tolerance than the standard 14.. Makes for a powerful sewing machine.. Beats my mates Bms up till 165 from a standing start
One was a 2010, one a 2011 and the other was a 14.. The midrange on the new bm has defo got more low down torque than the previous models but no match for the Honda. I went out with my mate with the new bm last night and he sold his bm on aurotrader tonight. The add should still be there.. Motorspirts with 850 miles or so. He's now looking for a blade
I have to admit I've done nothing but complain about the Blade since i got it but the more i ride it the more it amazes me. Sadly I'm having to admit its a better bike than the R1
You won't be saying that next year Matt.. The new r1 is something else . Should see it in the press late August
I stopped last night Yamaha need to produce a miracle Daz if its going to contend, i wait with much anticipation...
We've digressed a little but yes so do I but it wouldn't be the first time the hype outweighs the reality. I'm looking forward to it, always fun to run a demo in.
Well that's opened a can of worms over what it is and is not Anyway, its only a 6 day a week commuter, and there is no doubt what ever they have bolted in the engine, its a totally different feel than a 2010 lump, so much more drive from almost anywhere in the rev range. And brakes that fecking work every time.....happy man time at last.
I went from a 2004, to a 2012, and now a 2014, for me it was the suspension on the 2012 and the extra power/torque that made me justify the swap from my 2004, even though it had full Ohlins front and rear, but the 2014 seems to have even more mid range, and does not suffer as much from the hunting when starting from warm as my 2012 did. Tyres are the other big difference, both the 2012 and 2014 came with Bridgestone S20's which felt good, but I am sure the 2014 bike has been set up to be a bit stiffer. Hated the feel of the Rosso Corsa's on the 2012 though, thinking of trying Michelin Power 3's next, as my rear has already run out of tread after 2,200 miles, even less than the 2012 bike! As a comparison on power, I have a mate with a blueprinted 57 plate R1, on the 04 bike he could pull away from me, on the 12 I could stay with him, but on the 14 I can catch him based on a similar acceleration out of a bend/overtake. That said, the 04 bike had altered gearing, 2 up on the rear, and at times 1 less on the front, but the front wheel is already light enough on the newer bikes
My 2014 came with Dunlop Qualifiers, which were going to last me around 3 to 4 weeks on my mileage if that, so I got the dealer to do a straight swap for PR4s, have run a couple of sets of PR3s and been very happy, so far the 4s feel as good as the 3s, but have only put 500 miles on them this week, so time will tell how they pan out, but so far in all dry riding very satisfied, they got a right ragging at the weekend, but never felt anything but stable.
Did you have a pipe on your 2010? If you did you probably need a power commander .. the low end fuelling on mine needs sorting low down as it cuts / leans out the fuel too early need richening I am thinking at low RPM .. I don't think you would see much power difference?
