Has anyone here ever ordered and fitted one of these very tempting race painted body kits for your bike? Loads on Ebay from China in most race colours too. Seem to be a bargain but I bet they are a pain to fit. Quite fancy a Rothmans set for my RR6.
I think they're a load of shite TBH. Watch out for plastic cracking, paint flaws, warping due to heat, bad fitment, etc etc. If I was going down this route, I'd get some from the UK.
get this months PB magazine a great review on ebay/chinese fairings theyr did very well in their test believe it or not
^^^^ also read this to. £400 VS £2000 for a R1 full fairing. they said the quality is not there but from a distance you would not notice.
No mate, I'm just an opinionated idiot Not had any myself, but they get mixed views from buyers. As long as you know what you;re getting and you're happy with the price, that's all that matters really. I'd only fit them if I was planning on crashing, not for looks.
Hehe. On a side note - the Chinese performance (as opposed to cosmetic) parts (can, rearsets, brake lever) didn't perform very well in PB's test this month!
The power was similar to the yoshi pipe if I remember right but they said it wouldn't last 2 minutes andthe fit and finish was abysmal
I was looking at getting a set of plain white for £280 off fleabay and painting them up. Store the originals in bubblewrap in the loft and use the Chinese ones for easy track fairings or town riding so you dont get scooter scraps all down them. When you come to sell it, put the originals back on and it will look MINT.
Mate of mine got a set for his Daytona, said they needed some gentle tweeking and the colour didnt quite mach his tank, that aside he was chuffed for the money.
Ok, so has anybody actually bough a set of these? Which seller did you get them off and what was your overall impression? Basically the reason I'm asking is that I'm starting to think of changing tact when it comes to buying my blade. As it's a 2nd bike I'm now thinking instead of going for a newer/more expensive blade £8k+ in the colours I wanted I may actually just buy any reasonable condition rr 08 and tart it up with some new fairings. That way when the new blade gets released next year I can trade in with minimal loss and have the new one (good thinking eh batman) So, I was thinking the castrol colours as that'll work well with black wheels which most 08 blades seem to have, so who's the best to buy them off?
I just bought a set off a guy on ebay. They were Chinese imports but he had a load of trouble fitting them. I think mainly due to the fireblade fairings being awkward anyway. I bought them off him as i wanted some road/track fairings but i havnt got round to fitting them yet. I have them in the garage and the quality is ok, no where near Honda - but from a distance you couldnt tell, just when you get up close they are a bit rippled - oh and dont ever look at the inside - you will instantly be sick.. the build and 'weld' quality is nasty. I think the best and easiest way for you to go is Moto CC down in Portsmouth Motorcycle Fairings | Motorcycle Bodywork | Motorcycle Custom Paintwork They import chinese fairings but have done the research and know which ones are good and which are pants. They also provide a fitting service Of course, they are not as cheap as buying direct off eaby, but for and extra £200 i'd say its worth it. Also, bear in mind the newer blades will still be worth more than the older ones when the 2012 is released. I'd try and get a good 2010 as its had the crank upgrade, exhaust shielding is better and its got a black engine block which IMO looks better and i think will sell better. Look at the rr7 - a nice one is still £6000+
I've actually found a nice 2010 white & black today, the dealer has offered a really good deal on it, almost a grand cheaper on finance compared to a 2009 HRC with 4000miles on the clock whilst the 2010 white/black has only got 2150miles on it. Going to look at it tomorrow so by Monday I may be a new owner finally
Hondo, did you get anywhere with this as i fancy a scheme change on my rr5. I think i read that you tried an Auctmart kit, was it a good fit?
really old thread this muff old lad. blaggs has just got some repsol aftermarket fairings and so has andrew he went for the rothmans and hes well pleased i think will try to put the thread up for you
http://1000rr.co.uk/mods-upgrades-accessories-products/2531-2.htm chack out andrews album bud should imagine hes got some pics up he did the indicators in the mirror upgrade looks well IMO....
I think it just depends on where you get it from I know quite a few people that of had them some people really happy others really disappointed My brother got some for his thunderace from china, the paint was great and even the quality of the pannels was surprisingly good! But the holes were all slightly out so we spent quite a Long time either filling the holes to an oval type shape or building custom brackets to reach the holes, it was alot of messing about but looked really good once done
Thanks dave. Im thinking of ordering one of the following fairings, but cant decide on which one or how the quality will be as i dont want a rusty tank. Hanspree Silver/white Repsol Pramac West As you can probably tell, i like the the race look, i also like white. They're all listed here http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/auctmarts1/m.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=Cbr1000rr fairing 2005&_sop=15
