    Hi guys,

Been thinking about doing this for a couple of years after I spoke to somebody offshore and he couldn't recommend this enough. So I think this year is the year to get it off my bucket list. Check it out www.cannonballbikerun.com

Anybody done it before? Any takers?

It runs from the 25th June to the 1st July

    Steve

Looks epic eh? I think it's one of them things you either do once and it really opens your eyes that there are insane nutters out there or you get hooked and return year after year

That looks 'tha bollox', but there's no way I'd be able to get sign off for time in June (no time off at the end of any quarter) + Mrs V wouldn't be too impressed at me disappearing for 8 days. If there was a 5-day option, I'd be extremely tempted.

I'm having troubles sorting work out aswell but I have told them I'll take unpaid leave to give it a bash. I'm going to convert my track bike back to road guise for this as I think the bike would take a battering.

I was looking at the pics and there is a HRC blade tearing it up. It's all roads so the blade would be fine!

Heres all the info I got:

    2012 CBR
    ‘The Best of Morocco’

    June 25-July1 2012

    WELCOME!

Fellow Cannonballers, thanks for requesting more information about the World’s 8th Cannonball Bike Run and we are delighted that you are interested in joining us. This will be our fifth year in the kingdom of Morocco. To mark the occasion we have hand-picked the best elements and roads of the previous years to produce the ultimate epic adventure and the finest CBR ever.

This is an outline of the event to give you an idea of what to expect; for more information please contact the organisers.

Our goal is for you to return perhaps exhausted but definitely elated having experienced the ride of your life and enjoyed new experiences, forged new friendships and created new memories to last a lifetime.

    Game On!

Nick, Steve, Karen & the whole of the Cannonball Team

    WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT?

The Cannonball Bike Run is an experience that will change your life. It is a true adventure and one that you will long remember. The CBR is a unique blend of endurance and fun. The riding will be some of the best you have experienced. Each day the roads, the terrain and the challenge will be different. But you can be sure that the route you will riding will offer some of the emptiest roads you will have ever experienced and a scenery that can be mountains in the morning and desert in the afternoon; temperatures of 9 or 10 degrees to temperatures that are 30 plus. This will be an unforgettable experience and to make it all the better you will be sharing it with a group of kindred spirits.

    ROUTE

The actual route and final destination for each day will only be revealed at that morning’s start. The route for each day has been pre-ridden and uses a combination of A and B roads. The routes will all be provided on A4 booklets (one for each day) using a simple to understand and easy to follow ‘tulip’ system with mileage checks throughout.

You will be expected to cover around 9 hours riding each day and distances covered range around 250-350 miles per stage. This may not sound too tough but this will not be a London-Manchester blast up the M1!

Although the roads are all tarmac and there will be no off-roading required, surface qualities can vary with the best being the equal of anything in Europe. Of course you will be spending most of your time on the backroads of Morocco. And the route will take in the superb riding country of the Rif and Atlas mountains where you will be climbing up to over 9,000 feet; across the wilderness of the Moroccan Plains and along the stunning coastlines.

On the final day you will also be riding in Spain on some of the best biking roads in southern Europe before the final night’s luxury hotel on the shores of the Mediterranean and the legendary farewell party. The total distance covered will be around 2,250 miles.

    GETTING THERE

The cost of getting you and your bike to the start and back from the finish is not included. You could choose to ride there and back and extend your trip. However, the CBR organisers can assist with transporting your bike from England to the start location (Malaga) in Spain and also to return the bikes at the end of the event back to England. Full details of the transportation company are available from the Cannonball Office. As a guide the cost for return transportation from England to the Malaga (in Spain) start/finish will be from around £390 and does depend on the number of bikes being transported.

    FLIGHTS

If you decide to take the option of shipping your bike you will need to fly into Malaga for the start/finish. The ‘start’ hotel is just 3 kilometres from the airport. Malaga is very well served by airline companies so see the final page for flight information.

    TIMING

The actual CBR starts on Monday 25th June and finishes in Spain on Saturday June 30th followed by a final breakfast on the Sunday morning.

You will need to be in Malaga at the start hotel ready to go by very early on the morning of the 25th so you really need to be at the start location hotel (details below) on Sunday 24th. You can then sign on, meet up with all the other riders and also the CBR crew. We will be staying at the same hotel in Malaga that we have used for the last four years which is 3kms from the airport. The hotel is called the Tryp Guadalmar and its web address is: MELIA HOTELS INTERNATIONAL - MELIA - GRAN MELIA - SOL - ME - PARADISUS - INNSIDE - TRYP - OFFERS - ACCOMMODATION and then you just keep clicking through to the Guadalmar in Malaga. You can book a room on-line as this is not included in the price.

The last night is June 30th when we will be staying at a superb beach front hotel back in Spain (this night is included in the tour price). There will be a farewell CBR breakfast next morning on Sunday July 1st.

    THE BIKES & THE RIDERS

It doesn’t matter what you ride; sports bike or tourer; Harley or Hayabusa. In the past we have had bikes from just about every major manufacturer and from 600cc upwards. The route is all on tarmac. Refuelling is not a problem as petrol stations are marked at an average of 50 miles between stops. The support vehicles will also be carrying fuel for emergency use. It also doesn’t matter where you live. Riders on the CBR have come from USA, Estonia, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales,

    THE RIDING

The CBR is untimed so you ride it at your own pace. You will inevitably team up with other riders on the event that are riding at your pace which makes the whole event that more enjoyable.

    HOTELS

The hotels you will be staying in are all hand picked and all have swimming pools. Breakfast and dinner is included each day. There is secure parking at each hotel.

    ENTERTAINMENT

There will be entertainment each night with a major party at the finish. But wherever we are and whatever we are doing you will benefit from Cannonballer status!

    POLICE SUPPORT

The CBR is organised in association with the local Moroccan authorities and this
means that you will be benefiting from having the Police on your side. What does that mean? Well for example from 2008 to 2011 not a single rider on the CBR was stopped and ticketed.

    SUPPORT VEHICLE/BREAKDOWN

There will be a support van following the route and the event. This is an ‘emergency service’ only. In the event of a mechanical problem it will take you and your bike to the nearest town on the route so you can get help and assistance. For breakdown cover we would suggest booking up your cover through the ADAC (The German equivalent of the AA). The cost for a year’s cover (including the UK, Morocco and all Europe) is around £70 which is incredibly cheap.

I'm sure a couple of 998Rs were the first bikes to do this a few years back. If they can do it, a Honda will walk it!

Fifth Gear lastnight tested some cheapo 4x4 on part of this road out of Marakesh, 500+ Kilometres of twisties, looked quite a nice road in places but suicidal lorry and bus drivers kinda took the shine off it for me, The Atlas mountain range looked stunning tho
