Can you give me a price on one of these for the Zx10r as your web site is a little confusing, it says £416? Does that get me everything i need for the SS besides the shift rod?? Thank you..
You need to plus the vat on that matt and then add the cost of a shift rod if you've got aftermarket rearsets
Cheers buddy, just thought there maybe it might come in 2 parts, £416 for the loom and then ££££ for the lcd display ect ect, but that sounds like a real good price... Am i right in thinking this particular qs is simply plug in and it works all you shift kill times and sensitivity for you??
I wish, i don't have all the money for my new bike so can't pick it up till Xmas, they supply a quick shifter with the bike but will give me the money instead, so that coupled with the money for my quick shifter should allow me to buy this one
^^^ You are correct Martin but i thought it would be some cheap shifter, i did the deal today so my bike has gone and they do infact sell the bike with HM+ shifter included so thats saved me a lump sum of money... I had a chat with the guy's at HM today and I'm still unsure of the difference between the + and the SS, it could be that I'm to dumb to understand what their talking about....
Matt the SS is as you said, automatic sensitivity and shift time adjustment so get the benfit of changing gear through the entire rev range smoothly. The plus is of course manually set and has to be optimized for a particular rev range when you want to shift, the SS should let you change smooth as butter anywhere. Only thing its missing is kill times based on gear so you still cant use it 1st to 2nd. That at the moment is the GP only.
The SS is much the same as the Plus just it has HMSS technology (HM's seemless shift). It is able to reduce the kill time when needed, in other words if you have a kill time set of say 60ms this will be "slick" in the midrange, with the Plus only model that kill time would be too long up around 10k RPM, the SS ver is able to automatically reduce the kill time when needed, so if your kill time is set to 60ms and you shift in the upper the SS will automatically reduce the time so its "slick" even in the upper when a time is set for the midrange. In short it can automatically reduce kill times to be "slick" more of the time. Also the SS has no button on the back, the peddle is now the button, you hold the shift lever up or down while turning on to enter the setup count down, once setup mode is entered you can use the peddle to go "up" or "down" the menu items. @LC, the sensitivity is not automatic, just the kill time, it also only ever makes the time shorter, not longer fyi.
Ah ok Arthur thanks, didnt know that So you would be best to set to a long kill time for lower / mid range and let is reduce the timings for the top end stuff.
Yes I'd set it somewhere half way, say 58ms (as I like to aim for the upper), then the SS will trim the times down when needed, unlike the GP you will not know what time was used but I am told it can trim large amounts of time, the GP data log has shown me times as low as 35-40ms when used up around the red line! How? In short afaik it monitors the peddle, the software knows when a shift is started, loaded and engaged, its able to then tell if the time set is too long, the CPU in the HM SS is LIGHTNING fast and deals with this data in a instant.
Thats exactly what i thought Lamby but not according to the guy i spoke to at HM today, i said if i bought the SS and decided to change gears at a lower rev range say 8000 revs would it mean i get smooth changes and he said only if you adjust the kill time accordingly. He said they are quick shifters meant for changing gears at a high rev range so set it for a higher rev range and change gear in that range.. So this has left me confused, for now i shall wait for others to use it and give feedback or until i get more clarification....
I have the SS and have been using it for ages, it is "slicker" than the Plus model. It will be better for more of the time, set at 8k rpm I would say your kill time will be around 55ms, so you will see a smoother change upwards of that.
Hey guys, just to help understand it a little better and to clarify what I think the guy on the phone would have said. Quickshifters are by their nature a race product so designed to be used when hard on the throttle and mostly at the top of the rev range but there are times when short shifting etc so needs to work then too. The Plus SS using a very complex kalman algorithm to process the data. That is basically advanced predictive math. So lets slow the gear change down so I can explain it clearly. As you start to change gear, you start applying a force to the lever which obviously starts at 0kg. Then as you progressively push the lever you are increasing the force up to an average of around 50kg (maybe more we are seeing on the GP logs) so as this force is increasing you are turning the selector drum and as this hits the end it is a hard mechanical stop and then at this point your foot will continue pressing the lever BUT the force applied drops off so the shifter "knows" that the gear has physically been engaged. It also is looking at a few other things that are going on too but that would then be delving in to our IP which we don't want to let out there lol. Then using the algorithm and a processor that is prob a 1000 times more powerful than your ECU it calculates something like 1m times a second so can re engage the power in a nano second. Millioseconds are too long to describe how quick the Shifter can calculate the info that is coming to it. So then as it releases the power back to the rear wheel in say 40ms for example when you have set 55ms this gives you the impression of a "seamless" shift. It does this EVERY single shift so it is not learning it is calculating every single time you change gear. I recommend to still set the standard kill time up to a good point as if the HMSS technology is not used then it reverts back to this so its still good to have it set so you have a nice shift even when its not used. The sensitivity is still set in the same manner as before. Hence we have achieved with software what Honda and Yamaha have with a £¾m gear box which still needs a quickshifter But this has taken nearly 3 years to get it too the point of release in the GP Quickshifter and believe it or not, we came up with the term "seamless shift" so it kinda took our thunder away a little when we released the shifter to the public as these guys already said it with their gearbox lol And what I am pleased to be able to say now after not being allowed to mention anything as we had signed NDA's, HRC approve and use our Quickshifters, the only 3rd party brand QS I might add that they do use No one else can say that!!
Thanks Toby, so to sum up.... If i set the SS to the same settings as my Plus meaning i get the seamless shifting at 12k revs i will get the same seamless shifts at 9k and 10k revs???
