While I'm on the sick I've decided I need to paint the floor some kind of battleship grey colour. Wondered what's the best way of doing it. Ie does it need sealing & what type of floor paint is good, apply with roller. Or brush & best places to buy the stuff. Yes a simple task but don't wanna balls it up or pay over the odds. I'm sure plenty of you have done this job and know the best way etc etc Cheers Steve
Depends on what's down already! concrete would really need a seal first.... but that said I put a levelling compound first as i wanted the best flat finish. Then painted with floor paint for perfect flat finish! OCD
Plain concrete, rough finish womble. I'm not going to bother levelling it. I'll pretend I don't know it's not 100% level my OCD will never know !!
Yes it is! front tyres between the letters E and R ! maybe because its on the side stand! Jesus I'll better check! LOL Got everything from wickes using their own brand.
I did mine recently with a roller, It's a new floor. I sealed with couple of coats of PVA, then some cheap paint from ebay, it's really good. Mike.
Got an old carpet in mine ... It's comfy to stand or sit on while clarting, keeps it a little warmer in winter too .... ignore the pattern .. it was free
Mine was the same! as long as your not talking inches throw some levelling compound down let it find its own level and smooth, like a Baby's bum!
Aye it is, a mate of mine and his mate restored it I was just fettling the carbs ..... would have been a little boring if I'd just put a pic of me carpet up tho
Cue people showing me their immaculate garage floors to piss me and my OCD off. Please spare me having to look Moderators please delete them all, them aaaaaallllllllll lol
Stevie, Just doing the same thing in my garage, after a lot of research, ie an hour on the web, it was clear any water based paint is shite, and in particular the specilaist floor paint by International Paints, everyone found it lifted everytime they parked a tyre on it overnight and mega bad reviews. The one paint that kept coming out on top was Leyland Trade Heavy Duty floor paint, I picked a 5L can in Screwfix for around £30. Multiple different colours and I picked Frigate, so yep its like being on the deck of a Battleship, might even get seasick on a windy day its so Royal Navy. Swept and hoovered the floor, went around the edges with a 4" brush, then added about 5% white spirit and rollered the whole area, left it overnight and then rollered a second coat without thinning it, this one went on real easy about 11 sq M used around 3 L of paint. It is touch dry in 4 hours or so, depending on ambient temps. and claims to fully cure in 7 days. So far second coat was done on Sunday and is bone dry and ready to starting put things back on it IMO. The rest of the garage I am going to use Mototile PVC locking floor tiles, as this is main larger area that I work on things, so fancy a nice easy clean surface to work on.
Kentblade , very usefull to know did you seal the floor with pva or owt before you painted or don't I need to. It's plain concrete at minute been down years ! Post us a pic of colour if poss Steve
