Again, it appears there is a thing called laitance you need to be aware off, I gauged that my floor was just bloody dirty rather than suffering from this illness, and like yours its been down a long time, 40 years in my case. So I could see no need to seal it, just made sure it was a clean and dust free as poss. the surface was free from any damage or flaky areas. So far, so good, it's dry and appears to have stuck like the proverbial to a blanket, obviously only time will be the true test of its durability. Again my reading up suggests any new concrete is left 6 months to a year before painting. But as I am only a google expert on this, and not a builder I really don't have much of a clue mate.
Can't find it on wickes website but screwfix do the same thing as in previous post! Do a no nonsense tin for 17 quid got good reviews! Product code 74591
I'm a builder and my best advise is Hoover it big time Get some concrete floor hardener from builders merchants you mix it with water and poor on with a rose sprinkler on a watering can. You will need double what they recomend so give it 4 coats 1/2 day drying in warm weather between coats. Stops dust and paint blistering %50 solution of pva 2-3 coats then paint it with an oil based floor paint as previously advised by another member. The bumps and bobbles will wear eventually so better still Make a 50% solution of SBR cement polymer aditive made into a slurry with neat cement and liberraly slop it all over( Builders merchant) pricey but the dods diddies Once tacky put a self leveling sceed (rubberised one is best)= perfect level clean dust free floor Or just stick heavy duty lino down
My floor is about 30 years old - hoovered really well, and hit it with 2 coats of Trade group grey floor paint - plenty of outlets (mainly trade)and the garages use it so no bubbling when you park up with hot tyres. Still looks good after 3 years of use.
Thats a damn good floor and paint to last that well, resprct.......I'd wager the original concrete had plenty of floor hardener in it when poored
[ I'll pretend I don't know it's not 100% level my OCD will never know !![/QUOTE] I doubt it....... but if you can sleep at night, happy days.
I have the commercial vinyl you find in school corridors and such like. Managed to get a free roll and it's great. Plus no wear and reprint needed. Painted the walls white but now thinking the walls need jazzing up a bit! Red stripe or something to just make it more interesting. Mmmm
Thanks to Colin on here highlighting the good prices, I got some of the jigsaw flooring from Halfords and installed it throughout. I would watch with painting it to make sure you get a textured paint so that it isn't too slippy.
Was £10 for 1.6 x 1.8m worth per pack. They had it on special at the time. Weight of the bikes does compress it a bit though, and we have the stands on pucks as well. Especially the 600RR as the stand is just a small square end.
Well first coat done today, really highlights how shite the floor is but as long as it cuts the dust down ain't too bothered. Next up is painting the walls white, then some freebie kitchen units & cupboards
Yeah I'd already bought the paint, reckon the rubber matting was good from halfords as well, will see what it's like when the lots complete, may put orange carpet down on top of it lol
Plus point is your cover Rob ! Need the surroundings up to that standard lol better when walls painted. Anybody know the repsol orange colour code lmfao
