Hi All My 2006 blade clutch is STILL slipping. Mickey and I re-bled the whole system, new clutch fluid etc. Also put more oil in as apparently needs to be at top level on 2004-7 models as the clutch gasket sits high. It is slipping under hard acceleration. Has anyone else experienced this on one of these models? If anyone can shed any light that'd be much appreciated as it's really getting on my tits! Thanks Barns
I'm not saying that semi is wrong but I was recommended to use fully synthetic 10w/30. I've also read that people have had clutch slip after changing engine oil and found to have put the wrong stuff in. I think you could really do with a reply from (or PM to) Arthurbikemad, he seems to really know his stuff and these sorts of threads generally end with his post. Good luck mate. Andy B
I use fully synthetic 10w 40 on my 05 but I have also changed the clutch springs to stiffer ones as do lots of track days, on slip here
Clutch fluid levels should not effect slippage (unless over full and stopping the slave from returning fully), you may however want to check for a build up of crud under the clutch slave cylinder as it may be holding the push rod in, be sure the rod is free moving also. Also if the steel plates are warped then this will cause a problem, check them on a flat surface. If the castle or the running edge of the basket is worn this will also hang up the plates and cause them to bind open, filing or dressing the edge can give you a few more miles and give smooth operation. Re oil you can run any semi or full synth oil of 10-30 or 10-40 with no problem, what would deco cased a problem is if the oil is formulated for a car as car oils have a datives that are not comparable with a wet clutch, if your running bike oil you should be fine.
I rode the bike quite far today and it seems a lot worse when the bike is really hot from sitting in traffic or at the lights, does this help your diagnosis anyone?! It also happens the worst at about 4000rpm when i accelerate hard. Thanks
Don't know it's been said but are you using a different clutch lever ? I brought a DHM clutch lever that slightly held the clutch on
I fitted AVS levers to my RRA and noticed slipping under hard acceleration it was just the cable adjuster need wound back a bit check there's plenty of free play on the lever hopefully something as simple as that!
This one is very odd Barney you mentioned this only happens around 5000 revs and disappears after that. We replaced the fluids and checked the clutch push rod greasing the bugger too. Next step is to check the clutch friction and plain plates if the plain plates get burnt it impregnates the metal therefore losing adhesion. What is baffling it only occurs at a given revs.
it's on 04/7 so hydraulic not cable clutch. well if you haven't checked the friction plates yet, then theres a very very good chance it's this, worn plates or burnt steels.
Thanks guys all very helpful - Scooby have you experienced this? Is it a common fault with 06 Blades? Bloody thing is driving me nuts. Mickey - any chance I can bring the bike to you and leave it with you at some point next week? I'll pay you in tobacco and quarter pounders. Ha.
No problem there BB. Thought you would have reported earlier as there's unfinished work yet on the bike. Have the spare engine in case we may have to make a referral in case those plain plates are burnt or warped.
I had a fzr 600 years ago and that had clutch slip at 7000rpm, it turned into a bit of a head scratching scenario, it turned out to be glazed steel plates, to the eye they appeared good no warping etc. I ran some very fine emery cloth / (or you could use fine wet n dry sand paper) over them, solved the problem straight away, although after some use the problem came back. eventually I replaced the steels and the problem never presented again, might be worth checking, if your friction plates are still good.
tbh i thought, due to the thread title you'd already checked the clutch pack? i'm fairly certain it will be the clutch pack (assuming the slave cylinder is working fine),yes i ave had experience of clutch slip, and it wont always do it,usually when the bike is under load,or giving it the beans.it's quite easy to check, just take out he clutch pack and measure it,there is a very small tolerance in thickness,so if any plates or worn then it will slip.will dig out the measurements if you dont already have the workshop manual?
Not sure if this may be of help to you but i had exactly the same happen on my VFR with hydraulic clutch, took ages to find the problem, it turned out to be 2 little breather/vent holes in the fluid reservoir partially blocked, the more the clutch was used the more pressure built up in the system resulting in bad clutch slip ( replaced a perfectly good clutch trying to find the cause) i know that the reservoir is different on the Blade but there must be a controlled way of allowing the fluid back into the reservoir. Maybe worth pulling the reservoir off and cleaning thoroughly. Best of luck.
