I don't normally have a rant but tonight I feel compelled....

Off the train and on way home I see a purse on the pavement, stop pick it up and although having hardly any money in did have driving license, student, bank and train tickets in so still handy to the young girls who's it is....

Drive ten minutes out my way and no one in, no probs knock next door.... Yup, either side have no clue who they live next door too....

Drive another five minutes out my way to our main police station, front doors shut, go round to custody but they don't deal with these things so won't come out. Back to main entrance and push emergency button, wait 5 mins to be told that I'm through to a central call centre.... And they would try and get someone out....

Wait another 5 mins and nothing! No fecker come out.

Sorry young lady, purse is left on doorstep :(

I know they can only do a certain job with the resources given to them, but can't help think its all resourced in the wrong area!

They had no probs doing me for 36mph, taking my £100 speed awareness fee and giving me a huge of available courses!!

    World has gone fucking mad

well done mate for at least trying to help the young lady out, but I feel the same about the police these days, they seem to be fine collectors only :(
could be down to all the cuts in workforce they are getting though, to be fair to the cops?

Thing is we know first hand that in Spain last week the people and police were only to happy to help us when 1 of our wallets was left behind.

Exactly that col, the grief of losing stuff but getting back makes it worth while.... Had a few good deeds done to me over the years and half hour of my evening isn't that precious believe me.... And if it helps the lass out then half hour well spent IMO

But to stand outside a police station that I can see people working / moving around but no one can open the front door is beyond me.....

It really grips my shit, no wonder the once so wonderful public sprit has gone down the shitter,
You pulled every string a public spirited person like yourself would do, only to be pissed on at the last hurdle by those may i add that are always banging on about how we the general public should help a little bit more to make the world a better place yadayadayada only to get fcucked off by same.
And we wonder why peeps either cross the road or give everthing a damn good ignoring.

Fair play Jimbo, but I bet your left feeling just that little bit of why the fcuk do I bother. :(

Looks like you are not just a forum legend but also a legend off the forum.

Most people would have taken the money and dropped the purse in the bin!

Well done for that. Sadly it is an ever increasingly common situation. The wife and I saw a puppy running free. We caught it, tried in vain to see if anyone was looking for it. We took it to the local cop shop when a G4S rent-a-bobby told us they don't do dogs anymore. So we had another fruitless look for the owner, but luckily a local newsagent said she would look after the pup as we live miles away. We got a phone call later that day to say the owner had turned up so a happy ending.

End if the day there are still decent people out there so don't give up hope. Just don't expect anything from the establishment.

Irony is 2 weeks later we got a call from the cop shop to ask if we could look after a dog for the night as there were problems with the owner. We did it, never got any thanks but we would do the same again tomorrow.

The crazy world out there is not what we were brought up in.We had great respect and families helped one another out in times of need.We could leave our back doors open cos the community was good.Unfortunately we live in a society today driven by money, lack of resources and lack of respect. Now if a police officer lost his wallet, I bet someone would have answered the main door.So Great effort Jimbo, this good deed is duty of care.It shows you have a caring nature that only good people have.Well done mate.

The Police Force become The Police Service and now its become a self interest group that locks itself away in out of town fortresses whilst the law abiding population is left to fend for itself.

JV if you had tweeted something even remotely racist or homophobic they would have found you in about 2 hours flat, no wonder they have lost the respect and support of the majority of the law abiding population.

JV that looks very similar in design to the out of town fortress they have built in Northfleet to replace several town centre Police stations in NW Kent.

They have made themselves so unapproachable for all areas of the community, no wonder they are viewed with as much suspicion as the scroats.
