Just stuck in a set of SBS sintered into my Brembo set up - quite impressed from the off compared to the Brembo pads I had in. Only thing is that the front pads a dragging a little. I took the callipers off and cleaned all the bobbins up (they were all moving free anyways) and pushed the calliper pistons fully back. Bled the callipers and Brembo M/C afterwards and took it for a spin.. still a little dragging from the new pads up front. There seems to be about 5-10mm of travel on my master cylinder lever now and the brakes are biting.. Not a big deal but anyone any suggestions? Discs are not warped, bobbins all free and full bleed with fresh fluid..
If they are dragging, I would say its time to pop the pistons and seals out of a calipers and have a good clean, new seals would be recommended, however I have got away with re-using seals, if there is any damage I would replace the seals other wise generally its just a build of of crap behind the seals that causes them to drag.
I had something similar on my zx10r when I put Brembo pads in. The red coating was too thick and caused the pads to stick in the callipers. Took a dremel to the sides, removed the coating and they were fine. Be careful, as heat will probably make the issue worse and god forbid they bind on you.
Its a good idea.. trouble is that the Brembo M4's have only 2000 miles on them.. so seems unlikely they are full of crap, but you never know!
probably 1+ revolution.. not quite 2. I took the bike for a spin last night and I could feel the front binding a little.. I think I will take the callipers off today and inspect further.. the pad spring was very tight so may be linked to this.. worth investigating and ruling this out.
Stick with OEM Brembo pads mate, they work well in SS racing and are great imo, the race ver is even better once warm, yep they cost but hay.... BMW sell OEM M4's at a good rate, half that of Ducati. KTM also use the M4's 100mm/108 are same pad along with Aprilia and MV, GP4RX same also. Why you change them? worn out?
just changed them to give them a try Arthur! always tinkering. There is tons of life left in the brembo pads still :roll eyes:
Tbh the best caliper's drag, its the dust seals in road going calipers that cause the drag, they slightly grip the pistons and keep the pad just on the disc, Nissin calipers are real bad for it, unless its causing heat build up I'd not panic about it. The steel spring clips also have an effect, they are there to steady the pad and stop ware on the running surface of the pad to caliper.
