Mmmmm not sure bout that one Kentblade.BMW cars I have had since my early 20's I didn't buy them because of the image I bought them all cos they never go wrong and don't lose alot of money when selling them on.I have had all the models apart from the7 series but can honestly say I've enjoyed everyone of them.Would I buy a Merc ,Audi or run of the mill makes no chance cos in my eyes they are shite compared to a beemer.I work on the shite all day and when a beemer comes in it needs less work and is piss easy to work on.Now the BMW dealer (2 local) are the problems I get to hear. They nearly recruited me some years ago until I looked at the way they do business I told them to shove it.I service all of my cars, wouldn't want any surprises
I had almost the same problem with my Hayabusa. They couldn't find the problem and I thought its time to sell it and get a Blade...
I would write a letter to the BMW HQ and explain the problem and how your dealer is trying to solve the problem. Under normal circumstances they will send an Engineer to have a look at your bike !
I just found something from a biker magazine and one guy had a similar problem. They changed the "Brake piston rubber cuff" and the problem was solved.
You have misunderstood my comment, it was not about the cars, but about the shite backup you get from the franchised dealers. I cannot even count how many Beamers I have owned over the last 25 years or so, great driving cars, but unfortunately the latest models are the most bland, boring places to sit in, not even the fantastic turn in, and neutral steering makes up for that now. But how about 20Ks worth of warranty repairs in 3 years on an M3, they are not all bulletproof, but I still loved the car.
At the risk of continuing the digression of this thread: BMW dealerships are odd... I think they're geared up for maintaining cars for the first 3 years/50000 miles... any of the problems that occur after that age they wash their hands of. For example, they are refusing to service the gearbox in my 5 series as they claim it's "sealed for life, maintenance free"... however ZF who make the thing state it should have oil/filter change at 80000 miles
so a caliper seal then. from the limited info,it sounds to me like the dealer has somehow, unwittingly damaged the seal, seems much more plausible then the caliper failing.still hopefully we'll get the full outcome
That's alright mate my bad £20k is a lot of money to spend on repairs.Good job they swallowed the bills. The service from all the dealers I have dealt with is shite. Probably why Bexley motoring works,ETA bmw and H&C do so well. They look after the older generation as well as the new. They are approachable, sort issues out and change gearbox oil if you ask them to.Imagine the other BMW dealers in Kent doing bikes
The BMW has been repaired, the pad on the left hand side was missing ? The calliper has been replaced with a new one, I can't see that it's the fault of BMW more the fault of brembo. What do I do now? Complain directly to brembo?
Well brembo would probably put the blame back to BMW as it was assembled by them, could be a long fight
well if the pad was missing, either they have put in the wrong pads or put the reataing pins/clip in wrong,BMW brembo pads need to have a thicker back plate or they will fall through the caliper,1 way of ensuring you buy BMW,not aftermarket pads. did the garage say why the pad was missing?,does the caliper show any sign of damage? without this info your bolloxed, you really need the caliper back if your going to pursue any type of claim.i assume the BMW has sent the caliper off to be examined?
+1 Did the dealers forget to fit a pad, or fit it improperly. In your original post you said there appeared to be filings in the fluid, would suspect these came from the disk.
sounds to me like the pad was either never fitted,or came out for some reason, the caliper piston has popped out of it's seal due to no pad and fluid has pissed out everywhere from there, with the piston scoring the disc.
I find the explanation stunning really. lets be honest pads don't just go walk about on a daily basis do they? So the facts appear to be that the bike was working fine and by default was braking normally, it went into the dealer for a 1st service and after that you have a heart stopping moment because a pad has done a Paul Daniels. So the fix is, lets just replace the caliper, what did they say to sooth your concerns about it happening again? If I was a betting man, my money would be on a dealer firk up here, we are all different, but I would be writing a very serious letter to the Director of the dealership. You cannot complain to Brembo, your contract is with BMW.
Good job he took it back whilst in one piece. If it was a serious crash then someone's head would be on the block . garages are stringent about safety on brakes, surely someone should have test rode it when they serviced it and rechecked it before ready for collection.
Hang on though. If it's only happened after the 600 mile survice, surely the pad must have been there until then, or he wouldn't have been able to ride it. Doesn't that put it back on the dealer's service dept?
