We were up near Heathrow T4 yesterdy - Bike All Packed... They get stacked in a truck.. We fly out on the 21st 5 + hotel owner riding with us over 5 days...then we pack and send the bike back to the UK and fly back.. 3 Repsols, 2 BMW's, and a Suzuki We thought we would enjoy the days there rather then ride back. Some pics:
WHAT? I mean f_ck me ..but what a waste of some of the best roads in the world. It takes me 10 hours to ride my 2010 to Toulouse .. Two days on a the slower roads, and three if you really want to have fun .. why the hell would you want to miss any one of those possible options ... just saying like
We will be riding out and far...just not riding back on the long straight boring motorways to come back home...as thoughts were along the lines of not getting back tired or with sore ass's - as we are all working when we get back.. shipping just means we will not be tired...and actually enjoy the roads rather then ride on the motorways Still covering loads of miles...From Nice to La Grave to the Hotel then covering as much as we can for the next few days
I'm sure you will have a fantastic trip. I've been to Nice on my Blade two weeks ago, but got there via... Black Forest (B500) and Des Grandes Alpes Route And to avoid 'long straight boring motorways' I got home by ferry from Bilbao (previously spending 2 days in Pyreness)
This services gets you something you cannot buy - TIME You can work a full week, and Saturday afternoon be riding round Monaco, then enjoy 5 or so days riding brilliant roads, then by home for the weekend. Cost wise I bet there is little in it when you add everything up but be interested in the feedback after the trip - are you using it as a one way service?
2 way...Worked out £310 to send the bikes and £80 to bring them back. Having them sent back (inc our plane tickets back) cost near the same as riding back (fuel \ toll charges etc)
Last Sept did the Route Naploeon to Nice and back in 6 days, avoided the motorways where we could. Given the option I would do the same again, but Resol01 I love your style, and I can see the logic behind it. Just enjoy it and ride safe !
I ride all the roads and the motorways.. nowt boring about 150mph blasts to get to the good bits .. and .. btw .. Hollande has f_cked up the French economy so badly they can't afford manned speed traps as much as they used to. Doesn't bring any money apparently. A friend of mine is a retired Gendarme. IMHO theres nowt boring about blasting French Motorways to get to twisties .. but there are other ways of doing it too.. without motoways .. up to you .. but I just think you're missing out .. I know loads of people that avoid the "boring" bits .. I guess I just don't find them boring ..
We rode to Crete and back last year, we can't afford as much time this time. We were thinking about getting the bikes sent to Athens then riding back through the Balkans again but using the extra time gained having a proper look around. Hope you have a great time, please report back how the transport worked out. Who supplies the bike crates, they look like aircraft style motorcycle pallets? Mike.
I've just got back from doing this route last week. Was an excellent route and really good fun. Did have to do a stretch on the toll roads though to catch back up with the route and days after my dad gettin a screw in his back tyre coming back down the alps. Not good then spending a day waiting for a set to be fitted at 17:00 the next day. Avoiding the tolls all through France though gives you some lovely roads to ride! But either way of doing it is excellent.
