I have had a search but cant find the answer I am looking for, my RR9 has Castrol oil as the Honda dealer uses that, but I find the gear change a bit sticky I guess, I always used Fuchs oil in my ZX10R should I change the oil?? anyone else had the same issues??

    Cheers

Yep, that or Castrol Power1 Racing 4T come highly recommended.

Do you work at Costwold BMW by any chance?

I find my gear change is very slick when the bikes cold, so when engine oil is thicker. The warmer the bike gets the worse it gets.. Currently using 10 - 40 does that mean 10 -30 would be better as its thicker?

I thought it was the other way around with the lower number being thicker? 10w 30 was thicker than the 40?

20w 50 is the "thick" oil used in years long gone. 5w 30 is like water :)

The first number W is winter cold temp viscosity, lower number is thinner = easier start. 40 is viscosity at 100 C, higher the number is thicker at 100 C, HTH.

Now the weather is turning changing from Silkolene pro4 10w40 to 10w30 wondering if I notice any difference.

The motor seems to run a few degrees hotter with the 10w40 but this is probably the summer weather. For what its worth thought I try out a K&N oil filter was a bugger to remove as the welded nut is painted and doesn't take a my 17mm socket very well when loosening had to revert to mole grips!. Will be staying with OEM from now on.
