If you guy's end up getting a great buzz out of giving me shit if i fail and it causes many hours of laughter, fun and entertainment then at the very least we will all enjoy ourselves and as long as it never gets nasty, I'm always up for the crack and will happily join in the fun... I have set myself some tuff goals, one of them has been completed with great success and all parties enjoyed the banter (Silverstone) My next goal is to beat 2:00 around Oulton, it would be handy if i could do this on Tuesday. My next goal would be to hit below 1:50 and i estimate i would complete this in the early part of next year weather depending. If i can then consistently put in 1:42-46 at Oulton i will race in 2016 as a new comer with NL... If i fail all this then you can bet i'd have had many memorable laughs on the way and a great experience
Don't think you need to be doing 1.42 to race new comers mate.... That's bloody quick that!! Good on you for setting yourself goals, best way to improve IMO. But just don't let it get in the way of having fun.... End of the day that's what it's all about, and putting pressure on yourself can be expensive - trust me
Good luck to you Mat your main problem in doing your projected lap times is traffic on a trackday to get a clear lap have a word with your sponsors and see if they can hire out oulton for you that way no one will get in your way like me and Scooby . If you can get anywhere near 1.42-1.46 then you should be racing in thundersport the stepping stone to British Superstock bear in mind John Ingram set the new lap record for thundersport round there at 1.38 in June ,a mate raced with thundersport in June did 1.47 in QF 27th on the grid. As the saying goes you can talk the talk now walk the walk.
U wanna get a session or two with Mick one of the NL Instructors. He bats his 'old' 08-09 Blade round Oulton regularly in 1:43/44's Crack that and you're well in to Thundersport territory!
problem with mick is,if your not already around 1.45 he struggles as cant ride slow. Matt, theres a massive difference from 1.42 to 1.46. you'll be suprised how much time and practice it takes to just knock a second off once your at your comfort zone.i suspect you'll get to around 1.50 quite easily, but will be suprised how much time it takes to start knocking seconds, then a second, then it's tenths.the big jumps become smaller and smaller. but, like i've said,i hope you do,and have no doubt at some point next yr,like i do jase i'll be following you.
Fair play to you. Have to admit that dropping 10 seconds from August to early the next year sounds ambitious, but hey balls out and hit the revs
I have to agree with Tyke. Learn the track, get comfortable ant then build on you're braking markers, lean angles, turn in points and throttle points. I takes time to get quick and even more to get seriously quick. I'd love to see you get on this kind of pace but don't push it (too much) because thats when it does get expensive and painful.
Best wait and see how his ickle wickle ankle is this morning! Things like swell up big time the day after ya do em, so you may all yet be disappointed by not being the first Humans to witness the 'next big thing' on Track, like!
I got lucky the day I had the pleasure of a few laps with him. He had his push bike in the back of the van
Good luck with it Matt.. Everyman needs dreams and goals..yours are well achievable .. Fastest lap I've recorded myself doing around oulton is 1m56.. That was on a bm.. I'll be chuffed if I can get any where round there or maybe 1m55 .. I've got the right bike now so no excuses
haha it is,thats BSB s/stock times and sharp end of thundersport powerbikes. that's his target though so we will wait and see, dont think danny Buchan (sp) is worrying too much just yet
We'll lets see ,I was around when Kennedy was shot , The Yanks went to the moon, Cliff had his first no 1, The Miners strike ,The Brits took The Falklands, and do you think I am going to miss out on something as epic as Mad Matts first outing on the Beast? No way .I have my autograph book in hand and looking for a signed photo ( For eBay) see you Tuesday ! Has he a private garage ?
