I like them just not too keen on the looks and build, but that said they are a fantastic bike, daft but you should ride a street tripple, much more fun imo! I've rode a few, the ST R is a hoot, I'd rather have the 675 tbh, way more fun, super light and flicks like a push bike, propper wheelie machine!
^^^ what's your issue with the build art? Know a few lads who have had them and can't say they seem to of had any issues?? Be interested to hear your views if you've worked on them!
My comment is prob a bit OTT mate, just minor corrosion but then I should add the guys who own them use them all year round so on that note I should retract that comment as tbh it is very minor considering and I know a fair few jap and european bikes who's quality is WAY lower! As I say I am not in love with the looks but each time I take one out I just fall in love with the way they ride, the street triple I was out on yesterday is such a blast rain or shine you just want to keep riding...lol Had a right blast on it in the pissing rain...lol After a clean up:- I fitted an SC project system and Cordona shifter to a tripple R last year, MATE it sounded like a GP bike and again I just wanted to keep riding round on it...not many bikes you feel you have owned for years after a 5 min ride, says it all imo.
Bought a Speed Tripple in 2010 fantastic bike but didn't get on with the upright riding position. Sold it and bought a 1198 and hated it, sold the 1198 for a 2012 blade and all smiles again. When I'm ready for a naked bike the tripple would be at the top of the list for now
Fair shout mate, but I know you see a few of these so appreciate the comments, they are not perfect, but like you say I think on par with most others and better than quite a few.... sad thing is I don't think any bike is anywhere near where they used to be I love the looks, spec the new street r, but tbh I love the grunt of the bigger bikes and have rode both the old and new model and love them... seriously considering one as my next road bike (looks like the old R1 is being put to out to graze on track) but the more I look the more i'm drawn to the speed r! just think it would tick most of my "requirement" boxes not sure quality of ohlins but should be able to get a decent set up dialled in on that...
Well even though I find the looks quirky based on how they ride I am still sold 100%, over a CB1000R, Z1000, FZ1 etc etc etc I think the triple has bags to offer, as for the R, yeah I'd have one no problem.! I have grown up on naked bikes and still am fastest on such bikes, maybe its the flat bars etc who knows but on a B road you can just fly! Forgot to add a tempting picture
I like the dark special edition, but for me, it would be the R with the normal goodies, plus the arrow low boy, bar end mirrors, seat cowl and tail tidy.... they do some sexy little accessories too which really set the bike off. similar to this, but in black..... of course! and shiny suspension
I have had a few triumphs 3 speed triples the older model 2010 with round headlights lovely bike, IMO the newer bikes have been tamed a bit and when on a spirited ride you very soon run out of revs at 10000 rpm. Build quality I have had worse. I always get my bikes set up at MCT Suspension and remember him telling me that if it wasn't for Triumph he would be short of work lol He doesn't rate there suspension at all and the Ohlins on the Speed R is rubbish in his words and will take £500 to make it work right. Going back to a triumph very soon Daytona 675R awesome bike best I have ridden in 30 years.
Quick Update :- I've backed the suspension off and it is now much more rideable. Agree with the comments re finish on fasteners etc. - quality nowhere near as good as Honda. Front brakes haven't been right since I got it - Triumph have replaced discs under warranty - brakes superb now. Just fitted a pair of Pilot Roads which seem fine. Fuel economy is poor compared to the Blade.
I had a test ride on one today and it took me a few miles to gel with it but I like it. Never ridden a triple before but just sold a tuono which I loved but couldn't get used to the v twin character. I,m tempted to swap in the blade for it.
Never ridden one but was tempted before buying my CB1000R, but when i sat on it i just found it too heavy and the seat height (for me) was just too high, in the end the little Honda was perfect, and following my fitting of a PC V and a map it runs very nice indeed.
Ive ridden the big one and the small one and the small one is much more fun. I don't see the point of that kind of power with high bars and no fairing tbh .. unless you like having physio
Great bike. just taken delivery of a 2015 model. (exactly the same of the 2014) got some new arrow exhausts that came with it and have done zero miles ( great saving on new from a dealer ) im selling. check out forsale page or gives a shout.
