The ventura system is the most versatile used it with various racks and grabrail...... how compact does the tent fold ?

I am selling L brackets and rack here for £110 plus postage :-

The seat unit is that small I think you would struggle with just ratchet straps.

Overall fairly good - I go to Scotland every year on it, and Europe most years. I wouldn't be without the Ventura - saves messing about with Bungee straps etc. - you just put the bag over the rack and then there are two clips to secure.

Euro trips I tend to do 2500 miles ish in a week. Blade is fine at higher speeds but is hard work through towns etc. I've got an E Cushion seat on mine - big improvement over standard.

    Where are you heading for?

I use ventura, with main bag for kit, then stack the tent, roll mat and sleeping bag vertically on the bit of the rack that sticks out the back -

I'd buy the kit Ian E is selling, and if you don't get on with it sell it when you get back for almost the same money

Sure somebody would also loan you a bag for the trip.

Will stick up some pics in a bit with the above setup but works fine

    pic added

If you're packing light you might be better carrying it on your back? I have a Kriega 20 with two Kriega 10's either side of it and they make a nice wide flat area to bung stuff like tents on the top of them.

Failing that, take the rear seat of and just wrap a load of straps around the two then pop the seat back on.

    .

Yes 'Ventura' every time. The Rentec rack is just not up to the job. I bought and fitted one and a few months later, (when 'the penny dropped' and I realized that BITCH was never coming back :D) I decided to remove my pillion rests, I had to take the rack off and found the two rear M5 screws were broken. This, even though I'd been very careful to not exceed the recommended (if memory serves, a paltry 5 kilo  ) weight limit. I drilled and tapped 'em out to M8. Better job!

Good to speak to someone who has actually done some miles on the blade! Heading from scotland to Scarborough, so not too far but further than the usual. Do you know how many miles on normal roads we are likely to get from the blade from your experiamce??

I must admit i really do fancy a big adventure bike!! (watching long way round doesnt help this urge)

I bought the blade to replace my Daytona but I must admit I was actually looking to buy a Tiger 800 for the simple reason of covering tons of comfortable miles with loads of luggage options and space. Thought I'd miss the Sports bike though so I've committed to a few more years of just that with what is proving to be a great all rounder! I think my next bike will be an adventure bike though. Tiger, Explorer or a Multistrada....depending on how much money I have at the time!

Scotland to Scarborough should be a good trip - Blade will be fine. I find tank range great on Blade - 150 miles ish touring - but normally stop every 100 miles or so to fill up.

I've bought a Speed Triple this year to do the miles on - but a few reliability issues so far - so might be taking Blade again on next tour!
