Hi all, I'm after some advice on how a mate should tackle this problem. His bike was due a front and rear tyre change so he bought the tyres online and then took his wheels and new tyres to a tyre fitter to get them swapped out. Job done, wheels in bike and then out for a ride to scrub them in. On first try of the brakes he noticed very little braking power and on closer inspection found one of the discs was bent and this had pushed the pads back in the caliper.

He knows this wasn't the case before the tyre fitter got hold of the wheels so how would you recommend he persue this with the tyre fitter?

    Cheers

Latest update - he's been to see the tyre fitters and of course they're denying it but the business owner wants to see him tomorrow.

Needless to say lets see what the owner says but ...... it sound virtually impossible to prove it was the fitter.

Tough one..... They will suggest the damage could have occurred on the transit to and from the garage as that would be most likely way the disc was bent. But tbh how the hell were discs bent?? That would usually take a lot of heat.

Feel for your mate, never a good one to argue... :(

i am sorry for that but garage will end up not accepting the responsibility as u can not really proof anything

i am wondering what could have actually happened how can they get bend
    they are very solid normally
maybe your mate can get new set of discs and get the garage to fit them for free ::))

If he can take the wheels off himself then I am sure he can do a few allen key bolts on the wheel to fit new discs himself ;)

True, and if he really does think this garage damaged his discs..... does he want to trust them with the new ones !

I wouldn't trust them now to fit the new disc's, see what the owner has to say and go from there

I've seen garages use the kit they use for car tyres and use the hydraulic "grip" clamp thingy on the edge of the disks rather than the wheel.

That could have bent it no problem

I think your mate is going to have to suck it up.

Example: We had a similar problem when L got feed up me saying I will fit her new brake pads “tomorrow” so took her SLK to the repair garage by the station. The brakes squealed like a pig as they hadn’t bothered to file the edge of the pads so I told her to take it back, reluctantly they did the job, but afterwards I noticed one of the locking bolts was missing. When I called the garage to complain they wouldn’t admit anything and didn’t want to know. No proof they didn’t replace it or torque it up properly it so it cost me £68 plus vat for a new set of locking bolts. I should have just done the job myself in the first place.

A better than a feck all result, the owner has stumped up half the cash for a newie which kind of sounds like admitting responsibility without full compensation. Anyway it turns out it wasn't the disc but the carrier that was bent. He's straightened it himself good enough not to notice a difference in braking.

Thanks for the useful feedback and oh yer SW tell yer mate to tell his missus to just add custard and tuck into desert and stop covering up by telling us its your mate
