Funnily enough we've just been discussing this issue but at a massively, massively smaller scale. It seems to be that at whatever level you give of yourself there will, almost immediately, be those who will twist your contribution to their advantage and your detriment. Whether it be simply giving up a piece of your time to help somebody out or, ultimately, putting yourself in harms way to save the disenfranchised. A cynical view, I know, considering the great works this man, and those like him, have achieved, but considering the result, to merely become an advertising display of defiance blanketing the media. It makes me seriously rethink my generally humanitarian outlook.
Problem is these idiots are trying to provoke a response that they can then use to try and inflame more of the Middle East. Fortunately it is starting to look like some of the more influential Arabic states are coming round to the fact that something needs to be done. Sadly I think that there will only be one way to resolve this, and we don't have enough boots to put on the ground these days.
