Went out for a ride earlier, I pulled over for a smoke and 2 Lancaster's flew very low overhead. The sound from 8 Merlin's is truly fantastic.
2!!! I guess the other one hasn't gone home yet then. I must take a ride out to see them. Where are they stationed at the moment?
Couldn't believe it seeing the 2, The 2nd one was about 20 secs behind the lead Lanc , the noise was just awesome, and to see these 2 beautiful machines flying together just amazing.
Isn't there one from Canada stuck here for the moment due to a blown engine? One didn't sound like it was running on three did it?
That was the Duxford air show today, the Canadian lanc is here for a while yet, both planes are due at southport air show next weekend so they'll be routing up from coningsby to Southport. You can track them on flightradar24 app if you want to see if they're coming your way.
When I was learning to fly (ppl) we had an instructor that was great friends of one of the Lancaster pilots, had agreed that if they were ever near the airfield he would do a low pass if we wanted? If we wanted lol, didn't need to ask twice lol, on the day I was having a lesson, we cleared the airspace and he flew over lower than any Lancaster I have seen before opened the Merlins up to full climb power and boy did they sound good Also had the red arrows pass by quite quite close while I was flying solo in the circuit at 800', they we're lower than me but outside the circuit but I was warned on my RT just in case I had not seen them., but that's another story
