Just look at the ejecta plumes from Tycho at bottom centre. That thing splashed half the surface when it hit.
Here's a cool shot by someone off the net.. http://cdn.themetapicture.com/media/cool-motorcycle-jumping-touching-moon.jpg Some reason the embedding is not working
Haha, I wish.... welded up a guys exhaust, looked at felling some more flipping tree's (don't ask) and yeah...went off with the camera...lol me and that camera go everywhere together, went out for an hour without it today felt like I have left my right arm at home....lol And when this back's onto your workshop what can you do
Having watched a few videos about my camera I gave it a run out tonight. Felt like not a lot of info had stuck and out of 100+ photos I have one that I think is semi OK. Picking the youngest having a riding lesson was probably not a great idea, but most of the things I want to photograph will be sports type shots and so I thought sod it. I also ended up using manual mode as although I wanted to use aperture priority i couldn't do as it was insisting on wanting to use a flash, which isn't the best idea with horses and kids.
The others know better than me but I often use Tv (time value) or known as shutter priority and set a good speed for action around 1/500-1/1000 or more to freeze any action, the auto ISO is great when light is poor/changing and using a fast shutter if you have it or say 400-800ISO or higher depending on noise (I.e some cameras have a lot of noise with high ISO so I keep low as poss but times change and camera noise is better and better so I need to get over my fear of high ISO), app value nice and big (small f number) if light is poor like in your shot, you could add a stop or so exposure comp to brighten the scene if still dark, I guess it's a case of what works on the day, it's so dynamic taking good shots outside and moving around too, think the key with sports etc is the shutter speed, saying that I guess it depends on what you want the shot to show, frozen image, motion blur and so on.. great just to be out snapping away that's how you will suss it. And yeah Barney is the man for advice re horse and action etc, tbh lots of great guys here that can help with tips etc..
And then there are cameras like the 5D III that on its higher ISO settings can shoot through the lens cap...
Not wrong, stick it on a tripod with a slow shutter and high ISO and it seems to cut through the night like a laser! star light is too bright! as you well know, and then you have the 1DX and high end Nikons, shocking!
I remember si Shooting with his 5d mkiii in a dark room ISO turned up and it was unbelievable , The 1dx I've got is awesome , not really used it in anger yet But I'm off to Rhayader on Sunday to a Red kite feeding station There fed 1500hrs everyday with around 150/250 kites most days , If I'm allowed I hope to put older camera on a gorilla pod right by meat and hope too get a few real close ups , Ps..... Horses are a pain in the arse lol
Cheers Arthur that was helpful info. Loads of info floating around my head at the moment, but the dots don't join up yet. Can't remember why I wanted to use Aperture priority, obviously something stuck in my head from one of the videos. Think I just need to get the meaning/effect of the primary modes, so more reading/watching and shooting.
Your EXIF is your friend in these situations. In the olden days we had to take notes of everything. Shoot the same thing with different settings and your file info will let you pick the bones out of the effects you're after. We used to chant 'the film is the cheapest part of you kit' to encourage people to shoot. I'm using 32gb cards at present which gives me about 5500 tries to get it right. I'm nearly getting there too.
Luckily I am a geek and so I have a 64Gb card and tend to shoot in jpeg + raw mode so there should be plenty of info for me to go back to. I understand, or at least think I understand some if not most of the more basic terminology, but I need to learn the effect that the various settings have in real life. Like you say Ken I need to spend time taking the same shot with multiple settings so that my brain can try and connect the dots on what each change does. Problem is I like photographing moving things, mmmmm maybe a trip to Cadwell is in order as I know there is a lot of trackdays coming up as Remal is there over the weekend.
In the old days ha ....lol I still get my tape measure out now , Measure so many ft from cross country jump , Get my chair and sit
