Hi All i am visiting a company next weekend in Chicago and they have offered to take me out on an Yamaha R1 We will be in 3 and one of them leading so has anyone experience of riding in Chicago and the surrounding area? Chris
Only glanced at your title........ "Tips for Riding in Chicago" Was going to say pay the hooker well or watch out for their pimps !
Hope you have a great time dude but keep in mind a Cheshire biker was killed in America this week . A chap aged 61 was hit by a pickup riding on the wrong side of the road.
Driving in a car in Chicago is bad enough mate...... let alone a bike, their roads are in a shocking state around town. Unless you have had lots of experience driving around busy towns on the other side of the road then good luck.
I did about 300km form Jakarta to the south coast on a moped in June - and while at the time it felt a little daft looking back it was an experience and adventure. Head out with your colleagues - try and film the event and enjoy it - as others say in the city centre watch the roads but think you will have a blast - end of day you are riding a borrowed bike so they are not going to want to see it damaged.
I drove from Chicago up into Canada on holiday a few years back. The city is pretty dull, flat, grid system for roads etc, but the major difference is that in common with everywhere else in America, everyone is on their bloody phones! Stick to the speed limits, cops are cheaper in the states and much more common to encounter. Undertaking is legal on multi lanes, so you have to watch both sides, and there's no filtering in most states, don't know what Illinois rules are though. Head for Milwaukee though, it's only a couple of hours away and they love jap sports bikes there!
