Only thing about downhilling is that you are more at risk of injury than I'd say just about any other sport. I've seen first hand how dangerous it can be.

Not that I don't like it though. It gives you a cracking buzz.

Exercise bikes aren't great. I use a turbo trainer over the winter but even that won't come close to the workout you get being on the road etc. Hills, winds and such like make it much more challenging. Here's a 40 minute ride I did today, only the 2nd in several months, and the heart got a good workout. My theoretical max heart rate is 171 and I was hitting 170, with an average of 144.

That came from Endomondo with a Polar Bluetooth heartrate monitor. I also use a Garmin Edge 710 with HRM and Cadence sensor, so yes I am sad enough to wear 2 heart rate straps :)

I am trying not to think about it. 30 & 40 never bothered me, but 50 seems a horrible one :(

Ok, losing weight adds a couple of HP (maybe) .. But excercising long & keeping your heart rate down while doing it seems to be the first step towards a more healthy race season. That's why I bought a 2nd hand race bicycle and started to do +2h trainings around 150 heartbeat pm next to running.

Will not stop drinking though...(except when on track days.. :) )

But OT: weigh about 90kgs and ideally want to loose 10kg.. for 1.8m. That's still about 13 kg too heavy compared to our buddy Rossi :) :)

Absolutely. Fat burning is best achieved at lower heart rate levels, Zone 3 IIRC, but even in the higher zones you will burn fat but at a lower ratio of the calories consumed during the exercise. For fat burning I will use a turbo trainer as it is easier to maintain a constant heart rate as compared to on the road with hills and wind.

If anyone wants a cheap heart rate monitor I think Aldi have some at the moment for about £12.

Cheers mate but if I do ever get my heart up to 171 I'll use the monitor the paramedics bring with 'em.

It's bound to be more accurate...

It's different with him, Mike. He might be a pie eater but he can defy the laws of gravity too.

65kg bloody hell, I was pleased to get down to 83kg (although back up to 85kg now) but then I am 1.87m tall ;)
will get back down to 82kg by next year ;) if Xmas doesn't go crazy and my leathers shrink again ;)
anything less at my height will make me look to much like "Rodders" ;)
