Looking at several options for the bike... If I install race fairings, will I have to fit a headlight? I hear about daylight MOT's but there is no such thing?
Ill check at work tomorrow but I think if you don't have the headlamp you can't have any lights fitted, brakes, indicators and tail for a daytime mot. You'll need a horn, number plate and a reflector on the plate for daytime MOT. I think that's everything.
No reflector needed it shouldn't be on public highway at night time or low visibility so nothing should need to see it horn or audible device and a number plate
Yeah no such thing as a daytime mot it will simply show as "no lights fitted " as a advisory your free to fit them remove if you wish . My good friend and sponsor is a mot and mechanic ,copper had to ring him when I got pulled by I know everything robocop
We've always fitted a reflector but looking at regs:- It is possible due to a exception in regultion4(3)(a)of the road vechicle lighting regulations 1989 as amended. ' Nothing in these regulations shall require any lamp or reflector to be fitted between sunrise and sunset to a vechicle not fitted with any front or rear postition lamp.' As you say wedgie.
I didn't know until I got the tug couple years back I always used to buy those little circle ones aswell
It's a grey area, technically speaking if a bike was sold in the UK with lights it's should have lights, also just coz it passes an MOT does not mean it's fit for use on a public road, if traffic wanted to pull it off the road I am sure of they know the law they could, maybe someone from traffic could clear it up.
Yeah know exactly what you mean a MOT does not as you say makes it roadworthy of there is summat wrong they have every right to stop you in your tracks Defo grey area and I think it will change
What ever the Law say's I'd not be wanting to ride a bike without a Brake light! Being as most Track Bikes will still have the wiring and it's quick fit connectors in place inside the rear Tail unit then fitting a small LED Brake light on to the number plate bracket, which no doubt would be of the 'Tail Tidy' variety would be dead simple to do an connect up after going for your MOT.
It is SUCH a grey area, some say reflector, some say a brake light, some say NO lights, some say if any lights they must work and so on,,,.... As far as I know and wedgie says its is simple, NO lights at all, and a horn. You don't even need a speedo as far as I know, or you didn't. You best bet would be ask your tester what "he/she" wants. Then IF your stopped argue it out politely with the Police person
