Dark nights boredom setting in .So just for fun who would you nominate ( living or dead ) as your candidate for A National Treasure. Keep it simple 2 choices . I will start with ..John Cleese and Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Over to you!
Churchill ? A prime minister, president etc are only fronts of their parties. If you are saying Churchill for his part in the Second World War then his chiefs and commanders would be more deserving of it. Churchill made some nice speeches, but tactical military decisions were not his. National treasures ? The people we don't know the names of who provide and care for the people failed by the governments yet seek no fame for their efforts. The other people who provide and care for animals and stand up for their rights.
He had the bollox to stand in front of them all and carry the can if it all went Peter Tong though ey... At what some might call a little bit of a challenging time?? Might say cream rises to the top??? And he was better than all those great people that were under him?? The other I'm also with brad, grown up with him and can't resist watching whenever he is on the tele, like a an old friend and one I'll be truly gutted when he departs this mortal coil. Sir David is a legend
Out of office and politically "in the wilderness" during the 1930s, Churchill took the lead in warning about Nazi Germany and in campaigning for rearmament. At the outbreak of the Second World War, he was again appointed First Lord of the Admiralty. Following the resignation of Neville Chamberlain on 10 May 1940, Churchill became Prime Minister. His steadfast refusal to consider defeat, surrender, or a compromise peace helped inspire British resistance, especially during the difficult early days of the war when the British Commonwealth and Empire stood alone in its active opposition to Adolf Hitler. Churchill was particularly noted for his speeches and radio broadcasts, which helped inspire the British people. He led Britain as Prime Minister until victory over Nazi Germany had been secured. Gets my vote....... and I totally agree many helped the cause.....named and unnamed......
Speeches likely written by others. He did carry them over well though. Provided a great intro to Iron Maiden's World Slavery Tour gigs. But not a "national treasure" for me. No politician ever would or should be IMO.
William Wallace? Why not should be for a politician? Great person is a great person.... Surely modern judgement of what today's politicians are shouldn't cloud your judgment of folk that done and achieved incredible things in the past gone by??
Oh he did give a Fuck, I can assure you! ..................trouble was it was mostly other peoples Wives and Girlfriends!
