The bike I just got (2010 blade 32000 miles on it ) is making a strange noise like a dry bearing kind of sound is the best why I can describe it . I fitted a new clutch and release bearing and it's still the same ? Would it be the clutch basket ? It looks ok the only thing I can see wrong is the springs on the back are not as tight as they could be but would that make that noise ? Any help would be very much appreciated as I have run out of ideas ?
    thanks pj
ps the noise only goes away when the clutch starts to bite

If the noise goes away when the clutch bites, could it be because you're riding away from what's causing it?

I spent ages a couple of summers ago trying to work out what caused the buzzing sound every time I walked in the garage and put the keys in the ignition. It was the wasps nest above my head. :)

Ps: this is pretty unlikely mate ;) I think you need an Arthur response.

    Ha, wasps hay...lol

Can you record the noise? Dry bearing sound? I know what your describing but can not place it with the clutch pack etc however if as you say it goes when the clutch is released the logical finger would point to the clutch. Does it make the sound all the time when disengaged?

If the clutch is pulled in or released the noise is more or lease the same the only time it goes away is when the bike is in any gear and under pressure

If the plate was broken it's possible that the basket was damaged, maybe the basket is now off balance, when the bike is in N the basket and hub spins with the engine, when you engage a gear with the clutch in the hub will be still, it will not spin again until you ride off.

The noise only goes away when the bike is put into gear and the clutch is let out until it starts to bite . .When the bike is put into gear and the clutch is pulled in the noise is the same until the bike starts to pull away then it stops ?? How much would a basket cost ?
    Cheers PJ

It's only a possibility mate, maybe the noise is vibration from the basket/hub, be interesting to hear it, the quote is wrong I have updated my post, sorry, missed key points etc, basket spins all the time mate, but when in N the hub and basket spin together, it's possible that the main bearing/bush are worn or as I say an imbalance from broken plates etc.. hard to diagnose by means of guess work.

Crank will do it all the time, and normally get worse under load IMO.

That noise is the dreaded crank issue for sure, will Honda fix it....oh that's a BIG question, they should, you'd have to talk to your dealer. :(

No not at all mate, I am a pessimist, glass half empty kind of person, I also like to say it's never over until the fat lady sings, you don't ask you don't get and so on. I would like to have faith in the dealer and Honda to do the right thing if the crank is the issue. :) I also truly hope you get it sorted if so mate.
