I have had a Facebook account since the day it started over here back in 2005
Went to have a quick check on my FB account earlier and got the, "please log in" page.
Ok no problem...except that it wouldn't let me..
Took me to another page asking me to enter my full name, no special characters etc
Now my FB name has been in a crazy text style for about 4 years, had the occasional pop up message on the site asking if my name is correct etc but had no issues.
    So I tried re-using it...
Nope..violates their policy on names etc
So...Ok..looks like I'll have to be "Mr Normal Font"

    But.....!!!
Here's the really nasty scary stuff

Once you enter your name, it then asks you to provide 2 proofs of ID...Passport, Birth Certificate, driving licence, bank statement or some other official document etc !!!

    WTF

It's a social media site, it seems to me that Facebook is getting a little too intrusive into peoples private lives and more like Big Brother every day....

So..Facebook....No thanks..I'll survive without your draconian ways...

That sounds like a scam to me. How are you supposed to provide them with the proof of ID? You sure it's the official Facebook page?

Sounds like you have been hacked or just got on a scam site, Facebook does not required those documents but scammers do!

It's pretty normal these days for companies to require proof of ID if you claim to have an unusual name. It's even better if you have the same name as someone famous and got it registered before the "celeb" wanted to use it.

Personally I ditched facebook when they went too far over the boundries of the info I wanted to give and be public. I have rejoined since but only so the wife and kids can forward me stuff when I am away, and even then I am a bearded dragon ;) I'm sure that eventually FB will shut down such accounts as advertisers don't like to pay to put ads in front of accounts like that, let alone pay for ads that people never see because they use ad blockers :D

The mantra these days is "if you don't pay for the product, you are the product"

Apparently from what I have been reading since first posting, there have been thousands of people this has happened to and it is genuine Facebook.
It seems they changed their T+Cs back in 2013 FB/Instagram to include this and now they are blocking accounts for mystery "violations" and asking for government IDs.
From what I have read, you send in the two form of id, which, they say, they delete after verification and the account gets unblocked, but there are numerous stories of folks doing all the stuff and never hearing from FB again and accounts staying locked..

I wonder how many "violations" it's going to take before people start leaving FB in their droves, not wanting to give an overblown chat room their official identities ..

It keeps asking me why I haven't given it my phone number...

Apparently, I would be safer, more secure and enlightened by the experience if I gave them, and anybody else they want to sell it to, the capability of plagueing me at whim.

I still don't do Facebook, and refuse to get it.
Twitter is as far as I go with social media.

I use Fb as it keeps me in contact with mates all over the world but I would not be handing over details such as been posted. they can do and sod off if they ask me that in the future and I hope if they did most people would not use it.

I don't use FB either and never will. I don't like the opinionated views of some of the doleites on there and am happy to get my social networking kicks from like minded forums instead ;)
