Its got very mixed reaction - some saying its cashing in / making money from the events of 100 years ago, but all profits from the chocolate bar and other items are going to Royal British Legion - how much of John Lewis's profits from the penguin stuff are going to charity ? (if they are I am sorry I have missed that) Its a very well done advert - historically they spent a lot of time and effort = money to get the outfits , trenches correct I am shocked and (appalled if I am honest) how little history for 3 guys in their mid 20's know about WW1 and 2 - they did not know which war had the Nazis for example and one had never heard of East Germans being shot / killed trying to go over the Berlin Wall (sorry off topic a bit)
Myself and every person in the Army I've spoken to about this advert really appreciate it and found it moving. To be honest I got a little tear in my eye, i've been to a lot of the WW1 (& WW2) battle sites and it really struck a cord with me. It was filmed in association with the Royal British Legion and 100% of the profit from the sales of the chocolate bar go direct to the RBL - knowing first hand how good the RBL is as a charity I personally fully support it. Im a very cynical, cold bast**d at times especially when it comes to adverts and false emotions. BUT This is a nice christmas ad with a good message and even better still, proceeds to the right place. Well done sainsburys for honouring real people who made a difference.
Due to sky plus i never watch adverts anymore,so thanks Andy for putting it up on here, have to say moved me to tears and well done sainsburys for supporting a good cause.
