Just wondered if any issues with them as they get a bit miley? Mine currently has 3700 miles on it ... but will be doing 10,000 miles per year (I use my bikes) so will rack up quite quickly... hence the question.
I'd say providing you look after it properly and service it should be all good. Naturally things like wheel bearings etc will wear but the engine should be fine if it's looked after IMO. Shocks 'may' need a service eventually also.
I think Alblade has done 80k on his only changing consumables but best to ask him tbh. For info mine has done 18k and no problems and still on original chain and sprockets. Like most things look after it, do preventative maintenance, expect to replace consumsables and you should be OK IMO.
I have an 08 model with 28k on the clock, done most of them myself, never get the bike serviced at any kind of dealer, I change oil and filters once a year and obviously consumables when needed. Runs like a dream!
2011.... I've had it from new...26,000+miles. Had a chain and sprockets, and gets an oil, filter and brake fluid change every 2k miles.
Yep - 80k on a 2008 and the engine is like new, no wear at all on it, and its been stripped to every last bolt and forensically examined for wear and there was none Yes wheel bearings, chain and sprockets and head bearings, forks serviced and a new rear shock at 50k Only part to fail was the horn switch stuck on once in Spain , but that was pure comedy moment really
Well I have no experience like Al above but it shows with a little care of the bike it should last a long time
2010 I was putting on 15K a year, just front wheel bearings give up the ghost at regular intervals, more a comment on the pot holed roads. Now have a 4 month old MY14 on 5K and not a blip. Only suggestion is to religiously clean the front calipers, guides and disc carrier/rotor bobbins monthly in the winter months if riding all year, massively prolongs life of pads and rotors. and hose through the rad core to stop the debris welding itself with salt.
I've bought this one from an OCD owner as there isn't a single mark on it ... Like brand new. I keep it that way with weekly washing and regular ACF50 every three months ... It's kept spotless. Ventureshield helps minimize stone chip damage as well... Serviced properly with no expense spared. Linkages, suspension, etc all refreshed every two years This is my old 10yr old R1 with 33000 miles:
My 2010.....on a 2011 plate has now done 25000 miles. I had the first couple of services and the valve check done at a dealer but I service it myself other than those. No problems so far other than it burns oil when ridden hard and it makes a god awful buzzing noise over about 2500 rpm which I need to investigate. I think its something vibrating against something else rather than mechanical noise.
