Just fitted a set of the to my 08rr, after toying with the drill or not to drill question I opted for the NO Drill. They're a bit more ££ than R&G's but after fitting i think they are a better more robust product...........Bike Design Motorcycle Crash Protectors for Honda
Thats what concerned me at first but the solid graded steel bar that runs across the bike ( left to right ) behind the rad but in front of the headers, makes the whole set well solid . I'd like to say only time will tell but i hope to never find out .......lol...... Quote:By utilising (where necessary) carefully engineered strong, but light, high-tensile steel frame brackets, not only does this kit eliminate cutting, drilling or other bodywork modifications, but in a higher impact incident it is designed to act as a form of "crumple zone" to reduce the crash force transferring to your bike's frame and - more importantly - its engine mounting bolt threads.
I'd like to see pix of em in position. As long as the brackets are well supported with 10mm bolts and not too long, they should be OK.
I always recommnd the LSL No drill frame sliders. Buy them from LSL themselves NOT THE UK IMPORTER. Much different to 'bungs' and crash proven & delevloped by top level race teams. I cant tell you the amount of frames ive seen knackered by silly people with 20 gazillion sets of R&G bungs on their bikes, fireblades & R1's especially due to the way they mount. problem is when they dig in & flick the bike, shortly followed by you watching your P&J explode into a gazillion peices.... Also, some types of R&G Bungs are now banned under ACU technical & Scrutineering regs due to them injuring riders, the first i beleive are the r1 lower crash bungs.
I crashed with r&g bungs and they did their job perfectly. I looked at the bike design kit and it is well engineered but I was concerned the strenghting bar could bend in a crash and damage the expensive radiator but I probably worry about things too much.
If those fixings are 10mm, they look perfectly adequate to me. My trackbike went down on the left hand side, the R&G got ground away by 45 degrees and saved all but a slight breakthrough on the alternator cover. You will have a problem with any crashbung if the bike lands badly or hits a kerb, but they will generally save you a lot of cash and are worth every penny. Look good too!
