id take the track bike!! all day long.... why have another road bike to play with when you have your respsol mate.... will just sit in the corner doing nothing!

yes, track bikes get hammered... but they are built to.... and alot of guys give them more tlc than road bikes. and it saves your pride and joy if it all goes wong on the mountain!! ha ha

I can say for certain my race blade gets better looked after than my road blade ever did.

Remal, if your looking for a trackbike, there are a couple of really good spec 929 blades on ebay at the moment, one of the best blades and a bloody brilliant front end.

cheers Craig and Jimbo, I ment that I would buy a road buy to use only on track. If it was legal to do so, just have it Sorn, Possible TD insurance, No lights, etc.. just saying it may be better looked after and not ragged as much as a track bike. But as Craig said his Track bike is better looked after than his road bike.

I think if I was to buy a Track bike, the main thing I would want is something thats not going to blow up or cost me lots after I get it. Main reason why I normally buy new or nearly new cars/bikes to reduce the risk of picking up someone elses problems.

I ran a PI R6 as my trackbike, and that had 'daytime' mot, no lights etc etc.

I beleive one of the 929's on the bay is road legal with the same daytime mot setup as that.

Its a slippery slope though Matt. Theres the bike

    then the wets on wheels

    then tyre warmers

then the genny for said warmers

then a van to carry it all

and on, and on, and on.

PS, might be worth sending Racespares mike a message about a track bike, after all thats his bread & butter...

yeah but as i said and craig confirms, i know people look after them really well, as although they have different uses... they are still peoples pride and joy!

ask around, speak to someone like craig who know the decent blokes / bikes - this will mitigate some of the risk.

i for one, am gagging to get a bike thats soul purpose in life is to be wheeled out of the van and razzle dazzled all day long.... with me in the knowledge that if i bin it - dont matter, still got the beast in the garage. ; )

I have most of a 98 Blade trackbike in pieces in my garage. Most parts are there. I have two engines to try in my bike and the other one should go in my bike. Just a few bits to buy, rear sets, fairing brackets. I have some slightly crappy plastics. A new /recon shock would help. Gimme a shout if interested???

Told you it was too good for most, with the kit on it I'd worry more about binning yours than my RR-8 mint road bike

the only thing stopping me is the wife. I have lots of man toys from bikes and kit cars. once I get a few TD's under my belt I hope she will understand the benefits of a track bike

the cheaper the better to start with. I would prob say a figure of 2.5k would be a good start to get a half decent bike

You see, im the other way, im riding something built & protected for the job it does, whereas i used to shit bricks about taking the old zx7r around cadwell for fear of binning it.

you would have to be a complete muppet to ruin any of the serious parts on it, suspension etc.

Plus, parts are cheap for the 07's as its old, but still relatively new, whereas thats not the case woth older blades

lIn my opion If your going to get one, at least make sure it has the V5 and can get a mot, normal or daytime.
My last trackbike did not have a V5 but was in really good mechanical order. The only issue is when you do mod it / upgrade parts etc the only time you will find out if it all works ok is when you do the track day, if it doesnt your missing sessions and rushing around, and wasted your entry money.
My latest trackbike has both road plastics and track plastics with a V5 and current MOT, I adapted the track plastics to accomadate the rear light and fitted projector lights in the front, I can test it at my leisure when any work has been done and its also great fun to ride on the road as I do not care if the heavens open and it gets covered in crap, stone chips, ect.
Its the only way to go if you are going to do lots of trackdays, One low side on the Repsol would pay for a really good track bike.

Yeah, insist on a V5,( like mine). The first trackday of the year at Brands was raided and loadsa bikes confiscated coz of minor paperwork/frame/engine number irregularities. Most people were innocent , but it ruined their week. Make sure it's totally legit?
