I updated eventually to the new software. Now it's seems like it's slower and more glitchy if that makes any sense. I love my pad why is he being naughty bad now
The new IOS is aimed at the architecture of the new pad. The 2's processor isn't really up to it anymore. It's 'dad dancing' at a wedding, I'm afraid mate.
I'm determined not to give up on my '2' until the battery dies, but with the senility it's showing since IOS8 I'm taking care of it out of duty more than anything .
Yup pretty much what he said......the 1st gen ipad was phased out of upgrades from firmware 5.11 as it couldn't cope with the Demands of the new features and stuff, only matter of time before later gens can't cope and get phased out too!
Apple don't make it easy to go back to older firmware and often it is impossible especially if it moving up major upgrades ie going from firmware 6.xx to 7.xx as they often have major changes to file system which cannot be undone even if you have done a recent backup!
For a while after the update to 8, apple kept the 7 firmware available to 'downgrade'. My problem was that because I'd already backed up my version 8 before I learned this snippet, once I'd reverted to 7, it formatted the pad but didn't recognise my back up and I lost the lot...
Don't buy a new one Scott .I have the IPad Air two ands it's like yours. What I can't understand is there are so many techie type poeple all over the world surely they must be moaning directly to Apple to say the progess is going backwards . Mine has been a bit slow the past week or so but could that be extra usage in my area due to Xmas....So the question is for any nerds out there " Si" what is a better machine without the retrictions we have with the Apple product .? Ps I now can't go to my photos on the iPad and put them on the forum ! Something to do with not having permission .
I had these exact problems with my ip2 page freezing ,slower etc when I did the first big IS08 update etc but the latest software update the other week Fixed the problems I had been having .
Just when I was thinking it was long enough to perhaps come out from under my stone and u/g to 8, after reading this I am battening down the hatches and sticking with 7.
Well I backed mine up (2 retina) and did the update about a two months ago, it was kind of slow anyway so was getting on my teets, I thought sod it lets do it, update done and tbh it seems fine, no slower than it was before imo if anything you'd never know, most of the time the net is to blame imo as it gets more and more complex, more adverts etc get placed on to sites and so on, devices get slower as they simply have more to do regardless of what OS/CPU they run (if we are talking browsing speeds etc), new devices always seem quick, they don't have many apps/images/data and they always rip when they have naff all on them (not that storage has naff all to do with number crunching). As time goes by apps and data builds up and the host sites become more and more complex and your zippy tablet grinds to a halt! Its been the same for years, new CPU comes out twice as fast as the old one, along with a new OS that needs 3 times the CPU to run it, and so the new device seem 1x slower than the old one , plus it has more to do. At some point its all going to grind to a halt, go pop, and disappear into fat air. Its been a long day and today more than most tech gets right up my nose!
I thought the downgrade window was only opened up due to the update braking the shiny new iPhone 6 phones from acting like phones as it broke the ability to make/recieve calls properly???
It worked perfectly. Rolled my iPad 2 back to the last iOS 7 build first time. The problem was, like a dickhead, I'd backed up while in iOS 8 and when I went back to it, the iOS 7 pad couldn't read it.
Yeah I remember all the websites popping up with downgrade guides but I don't think it is possible to downgrade anymore as the window for apple signing the firmware has lapsed, and the downgrade from 8 back to 7 was only allowed by apple due to the firmware braking the iPhone 6's phone capability a week or so after its release. I also know where your coming from with the updated backup not working on the older firmware version mainly due to extra saved options and functionality from ios 8.
Best way is to back up your iPad , then reset and wipe the iPad and set it up as a new iPad. Then restore back up. Also, in wifi settings ( press the "i" in your wifi connection)change the DNS to 8888,8844. It'll be faster surfing the net.
