The heated jacket liner made the biggest difference for me, get one with long sleeves and heated collar. Someone I know had a similar problem a few years ago but the other way and Gerbing made some special oversize heated gloves for him. It may be worth a email an email or two.
I work where the salt comes from, a mile underground, I see what it does to cars, bikes, mopeds, anything mild steel rots and falls off alloy just gets instantly pitted and if you drive anything French say goodbye to the electrics. my bikes never go to work and come off the road as soon as salt hits the road. I know its tempting to get out on the bike on a clear crisp day but it can wreck your bike.
And??? I bought my bike to enjoy and ride, not just for sunny days but all weathers. A bike is hardly an investment is it? It de-values whether you ride it or not. If it was a piece of art or something that was mega valuable like a Brough SS100 I might agree with your view, also my insurance and MOT is for the whole year so I like to get my monies worth from that.
Well maybe you don't get the salt we get up north, if you want to keep your bike right you dont ride it in salted roads we get up here, your electrics will last a year or two, your alloy is wrecked within no time, if your happy with that, fill your boots.
Were hard down south, we don't need salt due to the enormous amounts of bloody cars on the road all the time!!!! Salt is a killer though
I get what your saying, salt is a fecker.... And no doubt you get more up there than us but I'd put money on a bikes electrics lasting more than a year or two even used all year round. Dave v uses his 929 ALL year and at times it looks bogging, cleans up mint and never has an issue with the electrics?? Ps - is saltburn location a wind up? Ha ha
It's the connections, clusters and fuses, if salt dust gets in there and you wash it or your on a wet salty road and it works its way in, it dosen't happen over night but things start failing, its not just the rot but the furing up, it gets in your calipers and everywhere, ive seen it time after time and learned the hard way. lol no Saltburn is genuine, lovely little town over Whitby way.
Winter my ass, grass is still growing in my garden........not even time to fleece up yet, so much for hard hairy arsed bikers, hopefully the car brigade will not read this thread or we are all doomed.
Although according to the Meteorological Office it's current 6C in Aviemore and 10 in Aberdeen so it's not exactly Nordic up in your country either my man
Have to admit it's rather like the Bahamas just now up here, but we've already had the snow a couple of weeks ago.
Actually though about breaking out the shorts earlier, but thought more of it. No one should have to see my knees
ACF50 the bike and don't worry about the salt ... Never had an issue riding through winter but then I use common sense.
Used to ride all year round every year when I was living back in the UK. Would only leave it at home when there was ice or snow on the road. Makes you a better rider and will do wonders for your confidence riding in the wet.
