I have a company car, a couple of weeks ago I parked outside the office and applied the handbrake. A few minutes later my colleague commented on how close' I had parked next to him' (didn't think I parked next to his car ???) The hand brake on my car had not engaged properly and my car had rolled back into his, both cars sustained very minor damage and my company are having repairs carried out through insurance. When my bike/car insurance comes up for renewal and I am asked 'any accidents/claims etc ' I assume I would have to declare the incident ?
Yes you should. If they find out that you've made a claim and haven't told them then they'll use it as a wriggle-out if you need to claim on your bike insurance, stating that you didn't provide accurate information at the time of quotation. I had a similar problem. I got rear-ended at a roundabout a couple of years back. Not my fault in any way and the other person's insurance company accepted liability and fixed my car. I didn't involve my insurance company at all. When it came to renewal time they asked if I'd had any claims regardless of fault. I said "No" but then thought......oh wait....I'd better tell them about that just in case. It won't put my premium up as I was blameless and didn't claim a penny from my insurance company. WRONG!!! Cheeky b*stards whacked £150 on my premium so I told them to go shove it.
