Spent the day at Drakelow tunnels in Kidderminster. Didn't take a camera as I thought it wouldn't be that photogenic. Spooky place. I was so wrong...
Been working on this one for a customer for a while now. The original was in shit order with over 50 years of ageing and poor display decisions, fading, yellowing and fly shit. Now it's finished I'm printing it onto canvas a metre in height. It's the construction of the Tamar road bridge beween Plymouth and Saltash (The way most of the Cornish get into the UK), between 1959 and 1961, and the customer's grandfather is one of the men sitting on the front beam. Look at all those flat 'ats, donkey jackets and turned down wellies. Prapper kit ma' bey! Jimbo? Are you in there?
I suspect, and I may be flamed for this, that they took responsibility for their own preservation and just got on with it...
New to all this as normally just take pictures of cars for work but took new camera home at the weekend and whilst walking the puppy thought i saw a tree having a crap. kids thought it was funny anyway .
What were You doing in the tunnels Ken ? I worked in them back as a apprentice during MOD days in late 70s......hospital and all sorts down there..... over 2 miles deep if I recall ??
A friend of mine text me and asked if I fancied a guided tour of Drakelow Tunnels. I'd never heard of them but just gave the default 'yeah I'm up for it' thinking they were here in Devon, or Cornwall at the most. When he said he'd book lunch in a pub in Wolverley that he knew, I started thinking 'What the f**k is he on about. So 150 hung over miles later, there I was. It was really interesting though, especially with all the kit still there after they just bricked it up. Apparently it was the second of these open days they'd arranged to push for funding to restore it as a museum.
Some of the mod places are amazing, the old munitions depots look great on a cold day with a bit of must about
Love this time of year for sunset photos, caught this Saturday night at the local petrol station on my way out for a night out
Thought I'd get a pic of the bike all back together after the off Untitled by (MrB), on Flickr Good as new.
