Hi all. I've never owned a Honda. I now have a 40 mile each way commute and am thinking a Fireblade will make it more fun, and I know 80 miles a day is nothing for this bike. I like the stub nosed 'blade and have found some 2010 bikes which are very clean. One has 4000 miles on it and is £6,995 - and spotless. One has 27k miles on is, is £1k cheaper, and is incredibly clean with new tyres, new MOT, new service. The £6995 one may have just gone which leaves the high mileage one. Is 27k too high for that price? And is it a false economy? I can't really wait around hunting as I need a reliable machine very quickly. Any advice very welcome, Happy New Year everyone.
Yes, 27k isn't high but a year later and another 18-20k on it and then year two you could have a bike with 60-65k miles on it and what will it be worth then. £1,000 for a years worth of less mileage is surely worth paying the extra or is too dear ? Just my calculations and views.
Yep, given you will be doing 80 miles a day you need a low mileage bike ... Run it for two years then sell for something else. That's my longer term plan having just bought a 2010 with 3500 miles and will average 10-12k pa on it. Sell with 25k-28k miles and lose only a few hundred quid ... Value takes a nose dive after 30-35k miles +

You are largely asking the wrong question to the wrong people on here when it comes to mileage, as a percentage most peeps on here don't do big miles and be default tend to shy away from mileage. So you will be putting 10k+'miles a year on it. Go for a bike with history that's cheap, there are plenty around at this time of year. You really don't need to spend more than 6k to get a top quality bike, and 5k or 20k miles makes no difference, correctly maintained these bikes cover big miles, so no point spending at the front end to destroy the residual by putting miles across it. Subject to the usual checks and common sense the bike you posted up looks the part, stay away from ABS if you want to keep your running costs down with mileage.

It's £800 plus the difference on the insurance which seems to be way more than I thought it'd be for the £800 difference in bike value. Right now though my biggest problem is nobody picking up the phone.
OK, bought the £800 more expensive one with 4k miles on it. Reason, one of the others had all it's plastics changed and they won't tell me why. Plus the £800 one will be delivered for free, the others want £200 to deliver. And it's coming with a new set of tyres. Add that all up the difference is negligible. So on Saturday take delivery. Holy shit! Need to not spend much for a couple of months...
Wise decision Pretty much what I've done ... Plan is to keep for 2yrs then punt it on with 24-26k miles whilst it's still worth something sensible. I also do 10-12k per year ... Get some pics up when it arrives ...
Damn Bennetts have gone back on the quote they gave me. This means I'll have to use MCE for a year. Not happy. Arse and feck and all that. Modding. Hmm. Want to get rid of the pillion pegs and seat, and maybe put a cheeky new exhaust on but otherwise I'm happy as is. Of course it'll get £5k worth of ACF50 poured over it 10 minutes after it arrives.
