hi guys i need your help and advice i have a rr04 as long as weather is not too bad i am commmuting 40 miles daily at the moment i have bridgestone 023 on the bike and have no problem with them but i am looking forward to do some track days as well as level 1 california superbike scholl this summer i have always been riding slower bikes and tyre wear was not a problem i could get 10000 -12000 miles on my deaville no problem but now i have to go for a tyre which is good for track days as well as commuting what would you recommend? i would really like to know if buying a different Tyre will be ok to use for both purpose or will i need a spare set of tyre for track and other set for commuting and than swap them every time ?? i have loads of milage undermy belt but i consider myself as inexperienced as all those miles covered on motorway commuting or touring now i want to be on track learn how to get knee down corner better etc. thanks for your feedback
get another set of wheels im thinking this option... takes max 30mins to swap over... so commter tyres then swap over at weekend etc for funnn!!! just get wheels with discs etc on i know abit of outlay but still!
I'll stand correcting mate but I thought Michelin recommended they only be used on sports/tourers and for 'out and out' sports bikes 2CT's should be fitted.
PR4s would be a great for both applications but i'd tempted to say get separate tyres for commuting/track .Your motorway mileage would probably mean the tyre will be way past its best before you get on the track.
PR4s out perform 2cts according to two lads on two different sports bikes. Both wet n dry with double the mileage. They would never go back to 2cts. On track I'm not so sure.As already suggested maybe a spare set with track tyres.I've got Rosso Corsas and they performed well.
This is what I am running presently - grip seems pretty good in the recent cold slimy conditions, though have not put them through their paces on a track (yet).
Merely repeating what I read on Michelin's web site SW. But hey, what do they know? PR3s/4s for the winter, 2CT's come spring works for me.
You are of course spot on with your observations Nic and prior to me buying my first set of Pr4s I did exactly the same but also took on board Andys comments along with others like Jimbo whom had put these ( sports Touring tyres) through heavy testing lol. What you get with these is bang on upto date Michelin Technology very grippy tyre in any weather ( equal to the latest and greatest half bald must have) but the true benefits are they really do last a long time and with most tyres being £ 260.00 a pop fitted it's something of great interest to most sports bike riders.
Another convert to the PR4s here too, been working well in all this murky wet stuff last few months. And Liked the feel of them on a track day experience at Brands last year too. They get my vote too!
+1 on the PR4s, had 6k hard use and still sticking in the cold temps like the proverbial to a blanket, although did suffer a bit of light front end/aquaplanney squirming on the motorway today during a deluge, to be fair lots of standing water and progress was being made, but might be getting time to start looking at refreshing them.
reading all this and a bit on the web also taking in to considration Ron Haslam is using bt023 on his school bikes i think best think to so is get new bt023 and use them also on track and for commuting whenever i get better on track and build confidence and gain more experience and come close to the limit of the tyres than i should consider buying spare wheells to swap around only for track days question is there is very good comment on pr4 s can i stick pr4 to back and then keep bt023 at the front or not i dont want to waste my front still has 4 mm left
Don't really think you'd have a problem with that configuration but should you have an accident your insurance company might not see it that way.
I wouldn't Mix n Match myself. For the small cost in reality I'd sacrifice the existing front and fit a full set of PR4's
