Got a 4 (black) and 4s (white) here that could be sold, both on O2/tesco I think and both 16gb and in great condition as had cases and screen protectors. I reckon the 4 is worth 90 and the 4s 120. Let me know.

Yes they can all be unlocked. They can do it in the shop for you if you like and also transfer numbers across while your there.

Vodafone can't do it, it has to be instigated via the current provider and owner via iTunes.

Once unlocked the phone is then re-locked to the new service provider and you have to do the same procedure again if and when in the future you port out again.

Another reason I'm a Happy Android for the foreseeable. ;)

I should be able to unlock both of them then as I bought them both new on contract. Can't look at it today, but I'll have a look on the O2 site tomorrow.

That's not true....if apple unlock the phone it stays unlocked, no matter what sim provider you put into the phone or how many times you restore or upgrade the phones firmware!

I know my 4s is unlocked and was originally on Vodafone and I now use it on O2 but have flung orange sims in it and back to o2 without doing anymore than turning the phone off, swap card and power back on!

02 were the only provider a year ago that would unlock for free other networks charged about 20 quid, but does have to be done by registered owner and can take a couple of days

That's kinda not on though really is it- We pay for the handsets as part of the contract (if it's not pay as ya go) so once it's fully paid for shouldn't it be FOC?

Fair enough Shiny, I stand corrected.
Maybe things have improved in recent years, just had a bit of mare unlocking our 2 iPhone4S's when we moved from O2 to Tesco Mobile despite Tesco using the same O2 network

I was a cheap skate like Si and palmed em off on my daughter too! ;)
She fecked the first one last year and is now on the last one!

I agree completely, even worse on pay as you go as you have paid 500+ quid up front!
But like most places these days they will squeeze every last penny out of you

What really pisses me off with phone company's is you sign on that line and your stuck in that contract for 2 years no matter what, even if you loose your job etc yet without fail every year I get a letter saying my bill has increased a couple quid! So I have to stick to the contract but they can change to their needs

Check how much they increase by. If it is more than a certain percentage you are allowed to walk away from the contract.
