Horses for courses IMO. And non comparable. Vr46 wouldn't even consider putting his lot on the line for the tt (I'm a huge fan). That's what makes the tt and the GUYS so special IMO. They may not be as good at the short stuff, but I bet they'd get closer to the the guys who do it than the others guys who fancy a go at the tt..... Anyone who does the Manx and tt gets my complete respect... Anyone at any level at track stuff impresses me, skill levels are amazing. But takes a different level to hang it out on the roads IMO
Totally agree with you. Different ball game altogether. I've seen md in a few rounds of bsb and did ok,, I know he had a few injurys and not on the proper machinery, so did very well considering the package he had.
Practice, sponsors, setup is the main reason they ride BSB, it's all just a build up to the TT. When I rag a blade on the road, I often look down and think, crap, I am only just playing with it, wheel in the air, head over the front wheel, bucked out the seat and all that, I think shit how do those guys ride like that? They are more like pilots than riders! Awesome!
Why are BSB boys not top riders at the TT? Its a different type of riding. What takes more skill? Shaving a 10th off each corner or holding onto a bike thats literally shaking you off? Depends on what you measure as "bike racing" ... They arent comparable. John McG wouldnt be top 10 in BSB yet look at his glory over the mountain while bsb boys cant get near him. Dont try and compare thinking any is better than the other. It doesnt work that way
There's plenty of riders who are/were fast on the TT and short circuits - Josh Brookes, Steve Hislop, Foggy, Ago and of course the greatest of all Mike Hailwood.
It's a different world now. Riders used to be made to do the TT as part of their contracts or used it as a way of getting noticed. In today's world a BSB rider finds it harder to get a contract that allows them to do real road racing.
Huge difference IMO between racing on the road and racing on a track. Each has it's own skill sets, not to mention guts. It's a bit like trying to compare track riding to road riding. My bike is set up for road riding, wouldn't expect to do well with it as it is on a track. I can totally understand why people like riding on a track, it makes a lot of sense in many ways. Because I ride only on roads it is probably why I prefer watching road racing, just wish there was more of it. MD is a great rider IMO and has a huge amount of talent and guts, I just worry that one day his balls may just be too big and he will push just too hard.
Just watched the BBC NI interview with him. He definitely looks like he's taken his training/diet more seriously. You wouldn't bet against him for more wins this year.
How many hundred riders line up on the BSB grid between Superbike, Superstock and supersport each year? Also every other domestic championship in the world and yet you are claiming that as many riders as I have fingers on one hand is plenty? Its a really, really small amount. Real road racing and circuit racing are chalk and cheese, goto any road race and youll see that
