Hey guys, does anyone know if newer froks from let's say 12 plate bike can be made to fit an 06 or are they different diameter and length ?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure they are different length at the least mate, due to different geometries between the bikes

Yup what he said......the 06-7 had longer forks than the newer 08+ bikes as they reduced the headstock angle.
Pretty sure the wheels are different too but I may be wrong on that was a long time ago when I was looking into wither a 08+ forks would fit on an early gen blade for a friend.

I was speaking to arthur about putting some 10 forks on my 05, he knows someone on another forum that had done it but as he went through the list of things that had to be changed and machined etc all I could see was £'a disappearing so I decided against it

Cheaper to sell up and upgrade to a newer model, plus you save all the insurance hassle of a heavily modded bike

The fork tubes from the 08 bike fit the 06/07 triple tree.
However, the fork bottoms are different, requiring spacers between the wheel and spindle clamp as well as spacers between the disc and wheel so the disc sit right in the calipers.

Alternatively, you could fit the complete front end from the 08 bike, (triple tree, forks and wheel) as the headstock spindle will fit the 06/07 headstock.

I have researched this in depth as I wanted to fit new forks to my 07, Ohlins no longer make FG329 forks for the 04-07 bike, not even as a one off special order...I asked.
They do make FG324 bare fork which has the same tube diameters but is 80mm longer, you can still buy the clamps and brackets from the 329's and fit them to the 324's but the overall cost is about £3k.

The alternative is the route I've decided on which is a rebuild of the Showas, with modern tech cartridge internals.

FTR can supply K-Tech internals and springs and all the gubbins for around £1k that you can fit yourself or they charge £100 to do the work.

There is a chap this side of York called Gareth at Reactive Suspension Reactive Suspension Motorcycle Suspension Specialists
I think there are a few guys from here that use him, he's worth giving a call.
I've just dropped my forks off with him today for a full upgrade with some Italian kit and other stuff, but thats costing around £1600, though I'm sure he could do other makes cheaper, probably the K-Tech stuff..

The fork bottoms on the 08 are the same as the 6/7 it's the 4/5 that's different to them all

The 08+ do sit 3mm closer either side to the wheel though, I have and my forks re valved and re sprung plus a bit of art work on them ;)

The triple tree on the 08- bikes is narrower than the 04-07, so the fork bottoms are shaped so the wheel will fit, where the early forks were square, so fitting the later fork in the early triple means you have to put thicker spacers between wheel and fork, though the wheel spindle is still the same length.

What Ohlins are those Martin ?? or are they Ohlins internals..

Can you send me a pm with the cost of plating and where? Although i have been only looking over here, Been looking to get it done for a while as I don't think I'll be getting RTfg43s ANYWHERE! Wondering why you didn't go with the powdercoat for the bottom. Thought its more durable than paint? The finish on them is great though.

The thing is with powdercoat is the cooking to get it flashed off, not sure I'd want something as critical as the fork bottoms subjected to high heat in case they went brittle.
Oddly enough, driving back after dropping my forks off this morning, I was thinking about painting the black bottoms a different colour before they get fitted back on the bike..

    Which colour though ?

I have that horrendous colour they did on the 04-05 so anything is better. Haven't decided though. Either black or that ohlins silver. Only problem with the silver is the whole fork is silver and so are my brembo calipers (ok kinda grey) so dunno if it will look well

The stock range seems to be pretty limited, black,silver,gold/brown...no matter what bike you look at...or chrome if it's an older bike/Harley

Thanks for all the advice lads, So is it just 08 forks that fit with the clamps or 08 on, also whats the better option 08 forks or my standard 06 forks with new internals ?

    thanks again
