Hi.. Has anyone used All Balls wheel bearings ? Changing mine and finding a lot of places are selling these ! They say they are manufactured to ABEC 3 precision levels, what ever that means... Anyone know if thats as good as originals ? Cheers G
Oem or standard bearings are generally ABEC1, so in answer to your question at the very least they will be equal to OEM, in tolerance anyway. Personally I would just buy from a local bearing supplier.
I can't testify to their quality yet, but I fitted some to mine a few days ago. I did a 20 mile shake-down run (scrubbing in new tyres) before re-torquing bolts and they felt smoooooth + it's tightened up the frond end (ooer missus). Mind you my old set were so shot that anything would feel better: http://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/what-tools-to-replace-front-wheel-bearings-08-11.28937 If you do it yourself, I'd recommend using a blind bearing puller .... or take the loose wheel and new bearings to a friendly mechanic to swap. If you try the screwdriver/hammer approach then you'll probably score the inside of the bearing spacer which is £19 new from Honda Also, if you use a front head paddock stand then it'll probably be in the way of the front axle, so you'll need to use a front fork stand.
When I rebuilt my kart engines back in the day I always put the bearings in the freezer overnight, bit of gentle heat on the bearing housing ( hairdryer or heat gun ) and Bob's yer uncle they used to just drop in.
