Hi All, Dont forget we are a Main Honda Dealer, so please if you have an queries about your bike that isnt part or accessory related please still ask on this thread and we will try our best to help fix the problem or advise you on what you should be doing. Cheers Stu.
Good call Stu. My question is . Although my battery is on a charger is there any point in starting the bike up letting it get warm and then turning it off .For me its a sort of comfort thing were i think it will do it good to run the oil around the engine ect so is there any negitives to this ie condensation in the exhaust ? or other nastys. Thanks Mike.
The problem with starting the bike up is that it uses the power in the battery but doesnt replace any because youve not gone anywhere, your best if your putting it away for the winter, taking the battery off taking it inside and putting it on an 'optimiser' thats the best thing you can do.
See this is why I don't goto main dealers! His question clearly says he has the bike on a charger and want to no of it's good bad to start it??? Ie run engine!! Your call is starting it will flatten battery ??
Repeated starting will flatten the battery. at idle revs its kicking the amps out to replace the last juice from the battery, i was told on my HONDA PDI Course at the institue that if you insist on running a bike up (which they dont recomend at all), you leave it until the fan kicks in, then let it come back to no fan, then stop the motor, the only difference in this was on the sp1/sp2 where you ran it until the fan kicked in then stopped the motor.
Just to clarify .I don't (put) the bike away as such just in case we have a couple of good days minus the salt which i know is rare but with the cost of insurance and the craving to be on the bike eating away at me daily (i speak for most dudes here) i have it on a charger so its ready to rumble at any time (dream) so the bike may be stood say 3 weeks and i am thinking is there something useful i can do for the sake of the future well being of the bike (ie start it up and get it to temp)so the oil flows around the engine ,this some how to me convinces me that i have done something useful? have i or is it an old wifes tale.?
Lol is anyone reading these posts! Yes starting your bike up running till fan in and out will do it good only do it once a month though!!! And for the last time he has a charger on the bike so the battery ain't gonna go flat lol!!!!!!!
People have there own ideas on winter storage I dont start my FI bikes for the whole of winter (I do start the carb bikes now and then) , one if I did I would be from one to another every five mins and two, starting the engine and letting it heat and cool causes condensation there are no advantages to starting your bike imo if you wish to wind it over then do so as I do without starting it, a few seconds wind over is enough to pump some oil up round the cams if your worried about rust, I have bikes that are 30/40 years old and show NO signs of rust in the top end bores and gearbox! Imo the best thing is end of season change the oil to remove contaminants from the engine give parts that are prone to external corrosion a wipe with some wd or acf wind the motor now and then if you feel the need, ducatis like a wind to repo's cam belts, you can remove the batt to place on optimate, I say remove as if the optimate fails it could boil the batt or catch fire and thats it, wait for summer.. Long term storage is another matter.. . I think you have to argue the pros and cons another con for me is most engine ware takes place in start up and warm up so for me I only run them if Im going to use them.. That's pretty much word for word what SP Motorcycles advised me for my Ducati, but that one would still crank with the kill switch on. Blimey, with old Italian electrics, I'm surprised it didn't fire up.
Some new bikes wont crank with the kill switch off, but like I say each to there own, my ideas are only based on pros and cons but im always open to new ideas.. Posted on my HTC Sensation with Tapatalk
Very true, mate. I'm not a tech, so that's why I came here originally. To leech knowledge off the rest of you. Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha....
As a heads up, what are the most common faults on the blade from a dealers perspetive, and what should we look out for?
