Well I've really excelled myself this time. For a couple of days I was deciding which chain and sprockets to get to do the 42 tooth sprocket mod on my RR4. In the end I got a nice pair of Renthal Sprocks and an AFAM chain from Demon Tweeks (thank you to Andy for the excellent service as usual, BTW), and was looking forward to swapping it all out next weekend and enjoying the extra acceleration once it warms up a bit. As well as the sprockets I've also ordered titanium sprocket nuts and some other bling. The last bit of which arrived today so that I'm ready to get fettling next weekend. Then on the drive home I was thinking about it and the thought crossed my mind, "I'm looking forward to seeing how much of a difference it makes. It's such a cheap mod too. Considering that the previous owner of the bike had spent money putting on Pazzo levers, a Yoshi pipe and other bits and bobs I'm surprised that he never thought to do the sprocke.....................................oh sh*t!! I never actually checked the sprocket that's on the bike already!!" I get home and immediately scurry off to the garage to check and yeah........it's already got one on Never even occurred to me to check I then have another realisation. If he's modded the rear he may have gone down one on the front too. I've bought a standard 16T front so I may be about to actually make it slower
I don't know about you guys that have gone down the -1 at the front but since I did , the chain noise I get now is a bit worrying at speed. The chain is adjusted spot on, well lubricated . I could,nt get a front gear with the damper built in like the OE one I removed so I suspect the noise is a result of just having an Undampened gear.
I dont like going down on the front sprocket as it could mean the chain runs more on the swing arm slider.
No dude, you can put me on the list for a day of being a muppet that should have stayed well away from the garage or anything mechanical, electrical or also anything that has been freshly painted
