After an accident last week it got me thinking that if it was the day before I would have had a DSLR and spare lenses on my back which I can only imagine Would have hurt!

I'm thinking about getting a tail pack? How secure would they be with camera gear in them? And would it rub the paint to much? Any input would be helpful

    Cheers

Tail packs are as secure as you make them. You could fit something like a Renntec rack to help keep them away from the bodywork, or get some rubber matting to put between them bags/straps and bodywork. Don't buy the matting from a bike shop though as they charge a rip-off price, just use some non-slip carpet matting which is a fraction of the price and does the same job.

Go for tail pack, gives you much more ease of movement on the bike, and they can be fitted very securely to the bike. I use duct tape under the edges of the pack to prevent and rubbing, and remember they are strapped to the seat.

Ive got one of these mate and its served me well ! I have done thousands of miles with it. Zips down to a neat small size or expands enough that i could fit: 1 pair of trainers (size 12's), 1 15" Macbook & charger, 1 wash bag, 1 pair of jeans, 3 tshirts, 3 pairs of pants and socks and a hoodie and a few other essentials ! Its like playing tetris, but its do-able ! I just got a piece of anti slip mat from halfords and cut it to the shape of where it touches on the tail unit and she's a gooden !

    Tail pack.

Kriega kit all the way. You can pick different sizes dependant on your requirement and then the different sizes clip together.

I've had an oxford tailpack for the last 8 years and it's worked really well on all sorts of rides and in all sorts of weathers. Not the ultimate nicest-looking thing ever, but pretty damn good.

I'm tempted to go Kreiga now though....

Kriega all the time, always dry, looks good and stays put, even with some spirited riding
Bit of a gaff fitting straps but once fitted they just tuck in under your seat/cowl if your not using the bag.

Another vote for Kriega. I've used them for many years, never failed, never leaked water.
And after washing they look like new ;)

Have you thought about tank-bag for cameras, lenses, etc? You can also use Kriega. US-10, US-20, depending on how much you need to carry ;)

Yep... I've used two US20's and a US10 together ... they are modular (the whole range is) so all clips together with ease.

    10yr warranty as well.

How does this bag strap on bud? I'm buying on to use for my trip to Spain in June, is it hooked underneath the rear cowl/seat or do the straps go underneath the tail? Cheers

It has a velcro strap that goes under pillion seat, then there is a bungie coming off each corner that i attached the two front ones to the hole on the pillion pegs, and the back two to my tail tidy ! As i said, i put some non slip mat between the bodywork and the bungies. You get two more bungies that go from the top too to make it stable but i put a cargo net over the top and stuff a sweatshirt and waterproofs (so you don't need to start bag rummaging if the weather changes), under that and pull it all down tight ! Its happily held up to 160mph+ too ;)
