My brother has the number plate W14ORE that he wants me to put on my bike to save him the retention fee every year. Would I just be asking for trouble putting it on as it would olny look right on a letter box style plate (9x3) rather than a standard size 9x7. Your thoughts please
Depends if you behave on the bike or not . Personally I think its ridiculous to put an easily identifiable / memorised plate on a bike.
You could also put a sign on your back saying 'I'm the one that speeds and sticks my fingers up to authority' And if you're totally innocent, (Like Me) what have you to worry about. Mike. But then again.......... What the hell, Live at full throttle.
Some of us were stopped last summer by police, they were only giving out bike safe leaflets & having a friendly chat..... I've a slightly smaller plate but not in your face as did others......apart from one with the letterbox style & he was done! Can't you sell it to some celebrity for loads a dosh & buy some cracking mods
Same with me. Few of us got stopped in Wales last year some with 7x5 & 8x6 my son with a letter box style spelling his name was £100 worse off.
I have a private plate on my bike, only 6 characters, it's square and fully complies with the regulations, but is smaller than an "illegal" one bought from eBay.. As for a plate like the OP one, probably best to stick it on a car or sell it on as others have said..
If it gets stuck on a bike registered to you, he loses ownership of the plate. My wife, did the same, asked me to stick her plate on my bike, I must have been pi**ed as I agreed, the bike got nicked, plate was then in limbo for year! as you cannot touch it if the bike is not recovered, legally plate is now the insurers! and I cannot be ar*ed to go through the process of getting it back. Still at least I will not get asked again.
I have a private plate on my bike, I bought it from the DVLA for £600. I so wish I never bought it, pain in the ass when it comes to selling your bike, plus the service history gets all messed up unless you keep it going with the original number. Plus I wish I kept it as it was. That £600 could have been used to totally re do my Sons bedroom. I say stay away they are a pain, expensive plus make you stand out.
I had one on my Blade as a bit of a laugh between me and me Mates as 3 of us bought new Bikes around the same time and the other 2 refused to have a 13 Plate on their Bikes so elected to have them registered on 62 Plates a few weeks early instead. Me? I threw caution to the wind and went with the Chinese!
I've got a few, love them, I have CBR and 666 XJR! Was funny the 666 as they say "I have to tell you sir that this represents the number of the beast, I.e the devil" Hell yeah that's why I want it...haha Not interested in letter box in the bike, too easy to get a fine, all who I know who have had them have been nicked, (at least five people) my mate being one, ten mins after fitting it haha, and he got a warning, put it on again and the number is ours and your on a Q plate!
I've had a private plate on this bike since the day it went on the road in the UK , no issue with it and like the fact its 'my' bike (its my initials) It was a really good deal at £250 and runs on a nice big legal plate as I know its one of the best ways to avoid attracting attention / staying below the radar so to speak. For that plate it may not work in your favour if you are stopped, depends on how the donut count has gone that day etc. I guess
Yep, i like them too mate ! Nice little touch... My favourite was Steve Parish's "P3NIS" ! Did used to make people smile
