Well been comtenplating trying this for some time now.neil champions 1984 record of 884 miles in 11hours 14 mins ,seems has not been broken for 31 years.i am going to attempt this in May I know bikes have moved on but it seems easy but I am under no illusion it will be very tough what with speed cameras now and volume of traffic,he done it on a Kwak gpz750 turbo I am going to try and put the record in place for honda or suzuki,I am in talks with both honda suzuki gb to see which will be favourable ,anyway the plan will be to set off at 430 am and arrive in lands end on or before 330 pm ,I have been planning this a while and done my homework but a average of 77 mph is going to be difficult ,any advise or feedback appreciated,
What a great idea, the spirit of adventure Just an extra thought, more of a question really... Why not attempt this run at night ?? or does the rules stipulate daytime ?? The roads would be quieter, and if you set off, say around 6-7pm, by the time you hit this area, traffic will have dropped off. then the main heavily populated areas, Midlands etc would all be tucked up in bed.. I know that night riding isn't great, however, the few dark hours would see lit motorways, hitting the country roads again after sun up.
If its permitted in the attempt? involve any willing forum members along the way? For example, when fuelling the bike, you're attending to other business while someone's filling her up, sure it can soon help with those valuable minutes? The route, times and fuel stops are going to be pretty rigid, and I'm sure there's peeps here would like to get involved and help you along the way?
Urban legend suggests a breakaway group of forum tourers done the last 100 miles to John o groats in about 25 mins in the pissing down rain never been confirmed though lol Good luck with the attempt. Going to be tough that. Many attempts since the record was broken? Just a thought though, by confirming you've beat the time are you not totally incriminating yourself to speeding???
Thanks for the offer speaking to Guinness records today to find out procedure,I am under no illusion this challenge will be so difficult or if possible at all to beat it has stood 31 years ,I can only give it a crack and see how I do I certainly won't be hanging about and am prepared to loose my licence if that what it takes I have a heavy goods licence which I use for work so that will go as well ,on the plus side it's only going to be a short ban but a hefty price and fine to pay ,don't know about the flip plate more in the lines of speed camera detector mounted and take the chance on the roads ie motorways and such
About 130mph by my rough calcs maybe the time is a little reduced... Prob more like 45 mins. Urban legends always get exaggerated lol
On the urban legend they had to fuel twice ? Coz doin 130mph average drank the go go juice pretty quick ? He would have to take so much fuel, he'd break another record .......wheeling the whole way !!!
2 gallon Gerry can only strapped on back pocket full of energy bars whilst fuelling 8 fuel stops roughly
Seriously tho if your gonna do it you need help mate ! Your gonna need front door men spotters for camera vans, accidents, traffic jams. As gaz said men ready to re fuel you and the bike. Good weather !! June would be better too coz of longest day shortest night ! As said gonna be much easier at night, does it matter for the record ?
If anyone out there got the balls to do it double ie two riders two bikes then the record would stand a considerable time I guess ?
I'm up for helpin you, I'm sure there's others on here willing, they don't have to do the whole way just help out in there area of the country ?? Needs a bit of organising and set up .....................alblade where are you ?
At night would be to risky for me daytime so I can see well ahead ie pot holes will want to average the 250 to Perth at about 90 mph in under 3 hours
